Excellent experience making Gelato.Great local company
We used to go to Safeway and purchase Righteous Gelato, then we got the too good app. One of the first purchases I made was here. It was also the end of the season and they were selling everything. We bought a bunch of Righteous Gelato. We have moved out of province but as soon as we were in Calgary last week we had to stop in. This place is immaculate, the gelato is amazing, the people working here seem to really enjoy working here. Thank you.
I did their gelato academy for a date night and found it to be poor value overall. First of all the way your experience is advertised and worded is kind of confusing. “This is a hands on gelato making experience where you and a partner will create one flavour of your choosing, and 4 pints each of your custom flavour to take home.” Each person will need their own individual ticket.” You’re clearly forced to do this with a partner so you should either be selling these as a packaged deal or re word the experience, $160 is A LOT of money for 8 small tubs of ice cream. It would be more interesting and engaging if there was the opportunity to play with flavours more as well. Secondly, for $160 you should be providing guests with a complimentary drink from the cafe or bar and make this a bit more of an “experience”, provide us with snack, maybe a couple small sample pints to take home. Thirdly, if other guests are late then that’s on you guys to lock the doors rather than wait for them and then rush us through our experience. Fourth, skip your tour and provide the guests with a drink or cocktail. Your warehouse isn’t very interesting (sorry) but walking to the back to see two milk lines and dry storage while I wait for my gelato to freeze isn’t worth $160. Fifth, on the tasting portion for you to only crack open 4 or 5 flavours is pretty lame and pretty cheap. The tasting should be done before making the gelato for inspiration. Overall, the value wasn’t there and I would NOT recommend this to friends or family. You have a good idea here but need to execute it better. I think $100 would be slightly more reasonable for 2 people for the experience I had. Or $160 for me and partner to make our own flavours.
The quality of their gelato is really great, and my partner and I got 8 pints of our flavour to bring home! It was cool to get a tour of the store and hear the history. Would have liked to see how base was made. Would definitely recommend!
I bought a container of the Righteous Gelato Earl Grey Lavender London Fog gelato at Sobeys last week. I was quite excited as I'm a huge fan of earl grey. I have to say that Righteous's take on this is subpar. It tasted closer to a fake vanilla sugary flavor strangely enough! I ended up dumping the remainder which was disappointing with how expensive it was :( This did not in fact enrich my life, one tiny spoonful at a time. I also read an article "Under the Lid at Righteous Gelato" with ex employees describing the owner, James Boettcher treating his staff badly which isn't cool at all. I thought I was supporting a hip modern business owner, and not another capitalist in disguise.
Did a tasting and tour. Finished off with a flight. Wonderful staff and event was most enjoyed.
Best gelato of life. Every flavour is a banger. I am also a huge fan of how this company operates and how they always give back so much to the community.
Fabulous customer service and phenomenal gelato!
