I've eaten here twice. The food is soulful and tastes great. The host and servers were really nice. I had baked chicken and smothered turkey on my 2 visits. portions are small in my opinion. Didn't leave feeling my appetite was completely filled.
The food was pretty ok, however me & my husband ordered to go, get home to see they gave us baby sized side dishes. We paid $59 for two meals & only had small side portions. Very disappointing! Also, he ordered country fried steak & it looked like they gave him smothered pork chops. The food was good though.
The food was delicious here. I will be back to try other things on the menu
I was excited to try this place, as I love good soul food and it was recommended. The atmosphere was nice, and it was clean and not too busy. My hubby asked for baked chicken, but they had no more. So he got the smothered pork chops. He said they were good, and the collard greens were really good. I ordered the fried chicken. To my surprise, they brought out chicken wings (4 of them). Now, I saw chicken wings on the menu, and purposely didn't choose that. I wanted some delicious, juicy, southern fried chicken. She explained that it was "fried chicken". Maybe it's just me, but I was highly disappointed by that. There's a difference between ordering fried chicken and ordering chicken wings. I expected to see like a breast & thigh, or something. They were decent, but just not what I wanted. Then the macaroni & cheese didn't have much taste and was hard in some parts. The candied yams were good, but very sweet - I guess that's okay. The best part for me was the cornbread. I may give them another try because I want to try other dishes, but I was just so taken aback by those wings masquerading as fried chicken. I don't know, we'll see. Pricing was as expected, not too bad. Overall, not a horrible experience. I just hope they get it together with their fried chicken, especially as a soul food place.
Red Velvet kitchen is the newest place to eat. Anyone who loves soul food really needs to visit the place.JACKIE
This is our second time to this restaurant. The overall experience was wonderful both times. We have tried the catfish, baked chicken and liver and onions, and peach cobbler. Worth checking out for sure.
