Had dinner here in April 2024. We were able to get a reservation for 7:30pm- when we were seated all the other tables were occupied by Japanese speaking people - generally a good sign of authenticity i would assume. We shared the cucumbers and fried chicken for appetizers, and I got the Tonkatsu donburi. Everything was tasty and up to standard. No issues with service either.
I recommend this new-ish katsu place in Hell's Kitchen. The pork retains a pink-ish hue from being slow-cooked for many (12?) hours. The batter is also incredibly light, more reminiscent of a Japanese katsu than one in America - just very finely executed! It wasn't particularly crowded when I went; I hope it stays in business! 1. Tonkatsu Bento (Fatback) 8 oz., 180 gm. Corn fed pork Fatback served with shredded cabbage, tomato, cucumber, White rice and pickles $34 2. Fried-Dip Eggplant (With a seaweed/bonito dashi-broth and garnished with ginger) $7 3. Karaage (Deep-fried Japanese fried chicken) $15 4. Addictive Spicy Cucumber (Cucumber with spicy chili beans and sesame-oil sauce, garnished with shredded red pepper) $7
Food and service were great. Pork is slow cooked and fried to be crispy but still tender. Staff was attentive. Definitely recommend.
I ordered the pork fatback set, which included shredded cabbage, a slice of tomato, three slices of cucumbers, and potato salad. They also provided katsu sauce, toasted sesame seeds, miso paste, mustard, and pink salt for dipping. Rice is not included but can be ordered separately. The pork was tender and fatty, but I left feeling underwhelmed, especially for this price point. The portion was a bit small and the flavor, in both the meat and breading, was lacking.
great food and service, highly recommended !
Visited Friday night for dinner, the restaurant wasn't completely full but there seemed to be a office gathering happening. There were two waiters working, which I felt was understaffed since it took a while for our food to come. The food itself was fine, I think its quite expensive for what it was. I got the pork fatback which was on the chewier side, but it was the specialty since I haven't seen this at any other katsu places. Overall, it was just fine
Lunch menu was great. Got the Miso Katsu Don Set. Very reasonably priced at $20. Tasted great.
