For vibes and atmosphere and the energy and warm smile of the man behind the counter, it’s 5 stars. But the food — at least the night I went — was, quite simply, boring, bland, and basking in mediocrity. Every dish we ordered was clearly missing a healthy dosing of salt. The green hot sauce is tasty and definitely helped, but it lacks any real depth of flavor and is so thin & watery that it was easy to forget it was even there. The tortilla chips were delicious and hand-fried to order (these were unsalted, I prefer either orientation). But the rest of the meal tasted like nothing that I couldn’t make at home. At least I would remember to season my meal. I can’t speak to the authenticity of the food because I don’t know all the intricacies and intimacies of different styles of Mexican cooking and cuisine. But for my palette and for my money, I would much rather go somewhere — anywhere — else.
