I have been going to pacific east Beachwood (and Coventry, but they now feel different) for decades, I know the waitresses, Kiki is great, however my last experience permanently compromised my experience with them. My son and I ordered unagi don (eel dinner, on rice with no vegetable extra sauce) and seared salmon belly. We had a new waitress who had trouble understanding us (English) there were only 3 other tables seated and no one came to help in spite of them overhearing the confusion. Took along time, then eel came looked good, covered in noxious pickled vegetables (no problem, but ordered without), no extra sauce, it was cold and tasted very smoked (which neither of us like). I tried to get the waitress attention and she did not understand our question and desire to address the issue, so my son gave up and forced half of it down with extra sauce (finally delivered after long wait) to drown out the flavor, I ate a couple bites just to be sure it wasn’t just a bad first bite. Nonetheless, we got the bill and the price had gone up (but wasn’t on the menu) and charged for extra sauce and ultimately a $65 bill, $20 more than the last time we had the same, less than a year earlier. I was shocked told the confused waitress it wasn’t acceptable and the manager came and refused to discount the bill for the bad eel because it was half eaten, really less but stirred till crushed. She knew the waitress had messed up our order and we tried to address it, but didn’t want to be mean to the waitress by trying more to explain it to her again and again. In any case it was a miserable experience that totally took the air out of any desire to return. I never write reviews, but needed the catharsis, and feel better now:-) it’s been very empty lately and I see why, are there new owners?
