Ordered Katsudon. I’m Japanese so I know what an authentic one is. Pork is surprisingly dry and hard to chew. Also tasteless itself, way too plain. I’m very sorry but this place became less authentic

I love this place. Feels very authentic and the staff are very kind. The meals are well rounded with lots of variety of flavors, textures, and ingredients that create a nice overall eating experience. It's cohesive. I went back to another ootoya location the next day because I had such a great time.

I asked for a $20 sake flight, which they didn’t had. They offered a different selection, but I was charged $30 without any notion of the price change. We were a group of people and they charged 3x$30 instead of $60 total. It seems like ripping off customers is normalised in NYC, but I don’t think it should be. Food was average, not worth the price in my opinion.

For the price I expected better food. I ordered a pork katsu, the meat was a bit overcooked and tough, the rice was mushy, the miso soup was a bit bland, nothing really stood out as worthwhile. The menu is a bit annoying, maybe this is just a typical Japanese way to eat lunch but I just wanted to order one main dish and maybe a couple starters to share, the starters were so small that this wasn't really doable. They were priced as if they were full size appetizer dishes but the we're barley enough for one person. Also, we thought about getting some sake for the table but the pricing was a bit extreme. Sake comes in a really small bottle so it just doesn't make sense paying $50 for the cheapest bottle on the menu. It's a beautiful restaurant but I wouldn't recommend it.

Made a reservation in advance to be here. The place is always crowded. Good food, more on the expensive side. Food is not spicy. The gravy of most of the dishes is delectable.
