Old Thousand II - "Dope Chinese"

Great food, and great staff.

Cool atmosphere but the food was not very good at all, especially for the price

This place is shut down but it still says open on Google and the website. I got here and it’s dark, locked, and emptied out.

Every dish I’ve had here is amazing. I grew up eating Chinese food all the time, and this is the only place in Austin that has really hits the mark. I’ve been getting it once very two weeks since moving to the Hyde Park area. Their general Tsos chicken is the perfect combo of sauce, crispiness, and breading. I recommend getting their mustard vinaigrette with it. Their dumplings are wonderful. Their Buddha bowl with sweet potato noodles is so so good and I love their side of vegetables. If you get the wheat noodles dish, it pairs amazingly with the general tsos chicken sauce. I think they also recently upgraded their rice which is huge. That was my only knock on them for a while. One recommendation for the restaurant - add more of the granny apple pieces to the general chicken. It’s such a great pairing with the chicken. And kick up the spice on the dish a pit. I love the chili peppers but some of them really mess you up so they’re harder to eat. Also, I’d love it if you took off the staff gratuity for to go orders. Gratuity and tips should be given for waited service in my opinion.

We visited on a Friday night around 8PM. We waited at the front for a solid 5 minutes before I went searching through the restaurant to try to find someone to seat us. Once we sat down, we had to wait another 5 minutes for menus. To be honest, if I wasn’t starving.. I would have left. After taking a look around, we noticed there were only 2 servers and lots of full tables. The service honestly is awful. Luckily, the restaurant got slower but unfortunately, the service never improved. But the food is amazing! The general Tso’s chicken is amazing. Perfect crunch and spice. The brisket fried rice was also spectacular. We also really enjoyed the pork and shrimp dim sum. Shoutout to the chefs! Hopefully some effort is made to greet guests upon arrival and be more attentive to tables while they were eating. We were a little put off that we had to ask for a second round of drinks, water and utensils.

Started off with the bitter and broken cocktail - amazing! Also got down on some dumplings and brisket fried rice. Everything was super tasty and delicious. Great service, I will definitely be back!

I had the brisket fried rice, and the meat was.soft, juicy and left me with a flavor resonace that I was thankful to have with each breath. The staff was cool, attentive, respectful, and fun. The price and quality are matched well and I am happy to recommend folks anytime. Keep up the great work! I will be back.

Was greeted quickly when I came in, sat over by the window. Place was very clean and decorated nicely. Kira was my server and very attentive. Food was great! I tried the Tso's lunch special which was a nice way to try other items. Came with a homemade spring roll with and I tried the pickled cabbage which was light and refreshing. Perfect amount of salt on everything. Food felt very clean! Apple was a nice addition to the chicken. Greens were nice also.
