Amazing ramen
Delicious spicy pork bowl!
The drinks are always creative and the food was excellent.
Always been a great spot over the years but it has never been better recently. Food quality is top tier in Rockford. Outstanding vegan options. Friendly staff makes each visit a joy. House made mazamen noodles need to be ordered.
Great downtown restaurant with free parking and close to entertainment venues. They have a unique menu that has some seasonal specials and everything is so tasty! The seared tuna bao, the burgers & the flank steak are incredible! An awesome stop for drinks, a snack or a nice dinner. A little on the pricier side but worth it for a nice dinner.
It was a nice place, however it seemed a little overpriced for the portions. Also while I was there I witnessed an altercation between a woman and one of the waiters. He told her he couldn't take her order because she was slurring and her table asked him for more time. He left and they all acted as if some huge offense to the woman was just comitted, they were flabbergasted that the waiter said that. It all seemed like a misunderstanding though because I overheard them talk about what I believe was the woman's condition which may have been why the waiter thought she was slurring. These people didn't even think twice about what the waiter could've thought. They just decided to ask for the bill, left, and complained in between themselves on their way out. Besides that the vibes were quite chillington as the sunset as I dined.
I was pretty disappointed with my trip to Octane. It was a pretty common hotspot for us prior to the pandemic - hands down one of our favorite places in Rockford. This was our first time their since they changed up the menu and I probably won't be going back. While the service was fantastic and the $13 cocktail was OK, they've redone the menu entirely and I was really missing some of their classic dishes they used to serve. A new menu I can deal with, but the new prices on the new menu are astronomical. I got the chicken and garlic rice in "adobo sauce". The chicken was cooked OK and the rice was fine but the adobo sauce (which really just seemed like soy sauce) was SOOOO salty I couldn't eat most of the rice that had been soaking in it. I don't mind paying high prices for good food, but the food was no where near the quality I would expect for a $30 entree of chicken and rice. You can pay the same price and get much better food at places like Sisters Thai and Abreo. If you're going to spend the money, check out those places first!
Historically we have loved Octane with our whole family. We have been going here since it opened with our younger children. We have three boys, two of which are teenagers now, and our three year old. We visited today with our 3 year old, and we were quite disappointed that there were no menu options for kids. We then inquired with our waitress about this and we were told that the chef could make a smaller portion of mac and cheese, chicken tenders (chicken from the bao sandwich), or a smaller kids burger. We chose the burger. When it came, we laughed because of its size. We thought nothing of it, as we have ordered kids things before that were more of adult size portion. Upon receiving the bill however, we were disappointed to find that we were charged for a full size burger that was more expensive than many of the adult options on the menu. With regret, we choose to no longer frequent Octane, as it appears they have chosen a less family friendly experience. The atmosphere is great, staff is friendly, but if we can’t bring our child with us, then we will not be able to come back. Note: we did bring this situation to our servers attention that evening, and all we were told is that she appreciated our feedback. I was literally at Octane the Friday before this with my Dad before we attended an IceHogs game. I love to support local. It’s not about the money, but a $16 burger for a 3 year old just doesn’t make much sense. I don’t expect a run of the mill kids menu, in fact I don’t even like that, but I do expect options for kids, that’s all. Kid-friendliness: The menu offering is not kid friendly
