Hugely enjoyed my super delux hearty tomato soup with crusty bread croutons and cheese last night! Note that "Comfort and Spice" operates from *inside* Necro, an awesome winter alternative to the usual food truck experience.

Decided to make the drive up to Pittsburgh today to hit a fairly new Brewery we heard about called Necromancer. They're best known for resurrecting "dead" beer styles and breathing new life into them...hence the name Necromancer and their Resurrection Series beers. Since opening 2 years ago, they've brewed over 200 styles of beer. And also won several awards along the way...both Blue Ribbons and Gold Medals. 2 of the 3 brews I sampled were definitely ones I had never heard of before. I started with the Break Deep Old Ale. At 8%, this Amber colored malty brew with hints of fig and other dried fruits was absolutely delicious. Sweet, caramelly, and smooth. Next, I had The Fall Adambier (Dark German Strong Beer.) Dark like a Porter or Stout this was again a huge hit with me. Roasty, sweet, strong (9%), but no overpowering flavors mixed in like coffee or chocolate. Just a simple, dark brew. Lastly, I had the NSFB (Not Safe for Bagels) Kvass (Malty Rye Ale with Rye Bagels added to the mash). I had no idea what to expect and was blown away. Delicious Rye flavor without killing it with a yeasty-bread quality. Amber in color with just the right about of bitterness to balance the malt. If you find yourself in the Ross Township area of Pittsburgh (Babcock Blvd.) this is a definite must visit. They will be opening an English Pub called The Midnight Whistler the Greenfield area. Hopefully a Q1 date will be set soon.
