Ordered takeout, at first we thought portions were too small. Taste wise the meat was juicy and flavorful. The Mac and cheese was delicious and creamy & the loaded baked potato salad was decent. Overall I was satisfied, just wished you’d get a bit more for the price.
2/17/2024 New Location - 2670 Avenir Place, Vienna, VA 22180. Visited Myron Mixon BBQ Friday, this week around 3PM. Was surprised to find the restaurant empty of customers, except us and 4 employees. As a big fan of BBQ I had great expectations. Upon arrival I was disappointed with the dinning area being a bit of a mess. Some tables had sauce bottles that were very low on product and in different locations on the tables. Some tables had no sauce bottles. It had a very disorganized appearance. The layout of the dinning area was very unappealing and boring. I was greeted by a young gentleman, unenthusiasticly. I explained it was 1st visit and needed to view the menu. No assistance, suggestions, recommendations or questions raised, nor was any welcome or information provided. Order was placed: 1 three meat platter with a side and 1 brisket sandwich with a side and 2 sodas. This came to a total of $52 and change which seems outrageous! 2 workers assisted (stood around the prep person talking) in getting the product arranged on a metal tray with a paper liner. The two trays were prepared quickly and called by name for pick-up. Again, we were the only customers and were sitting directly in front of the counter. Interestingly, we ordered the 3 meat platter and were given a 2 meat platter. When notified of the mistake, two of the workers, including the order taker needed to re-verify the order that was just taken from their only customers. They stated it was a 3 meat platter and corrected the platter... lacking any apology or accountability. The coleslaw was very good and appeared fresh made. The 3 meat platter was very sterile and unappealing. It reminded me of a school cafeteria lunch tray. Just 3 different blobs of meat laid on a metal tray with a cup of coleslaw sitting there. The 3 meats (chicken, pork & sausage) were well cooked and had good flavor. The presentation was very, very weak and disappointing. The brisket sandwich was tasty and had a great smoke ring, but was dry. I was very surprised that no option of moist or lean was available. Of course, we had to get sauce bottles from an adjacent table since our were so low. The others were not much better. The cashier did politely offer us two partially filled sauce bottles near the end of our meal, since he noticed ours were near empty, but that was too late. The soda was a cup for filling at a self serve station that was satisfactory. Overall... a very unsatisfying visit, with a very disappointing service level (generally missing). The food quality was mediocre at best. The aesthetics and appeal were non-existent. The price to value was extremely out of balance. Way too highly priced for the experience. Myron Mixon's BBQ is an outright "avoid". Famous Dave's is much, much better and Mission BBQ is the stand alone best in the area!! Parking: Free parking is essentially non-existent. parking without pay can be obtained by cheating. You could inappropriately park in the Harris Teeter garage parking.
The ribs were good. Service not so much. Took forever for three guys to find BBQ sauce and put my food in a bag. When I was handed my order, I told the guy to "Have a good night". His response was "I will". Needs some training on how to talk to a customer.
I found Myron Mixon a sad and disappointing experience. At 7:30 PM on Saturday, January 27th, I was the sole dine-in customer. There was a trickle of carry-out business. The four staff on hand were listless and disheveled. Menu items were served from a messy steam table buffet set-up behind the counter. The pulled pork sandwich I was served was barely warm and not flavorful, and the BBQ sauces were mediocre. I noticed yellow flecks in the off-putting potato salad, which tasted unpleasant. I suspected it was cheese, which was confirmed by one of the staff. I couldn’t eat it. I have never seen potato salad having cheese as an ingredient. The baked beans were okay, but barely warm.
Wife and I were excited to try this new BBQ spot. We were extremely disappointed. She had the six hog sauce wings and fries. The wings tasted fine. They were hot (temperature not spiciness). The fries were on the cold-side of lukewarm. She got sick on the way home, so I'm deducting points from the wings. I ordered the pulled chicken & brisket, with collard greens and peach BBQ beans. The only thing actually hot was the beans. The greens were on the hot-side of lukewarm. The meat was on the chilly-side of room temperature. The pulled chicken was too salty. The brisket was juicy and flavorful. The greens tasted vinegary. The beans were delicious. I'd never had beans with peaches, but I will definitely seek it out in the future. We ended up paying about $60 for our food. At that price point, our expectations were much higher. If we'd only paid around $30, we would probably have been more forgiving. Considering how hard it's been to find good tomato-based BBQ in NOVA, we left really disappointed. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that a bunch of tables (including ours) didn’t have sauce bottles available. I had to swipe some from another table. Seems like a basic thing to ensure before opening the doors. That's why atmosphere lost points.
Had the chicken wings with hog sauce, and they were some of the best wings we’ve had in the area! Also tried the pulled pork, baked beans, and cornbread which were also great! Would recommend to people looking for good BBQ in the Dunn Loring area.
Food is good, helpful staff and nice looking place.
Grand opening ribbon cutting today with Myron doing the ribbon cutting. I certainly will miss the location in Alexandria that they recently closed but I will travel the 40 minutes because his barbecue is that good!!
We ordered takeout for lunch and got the pulled chicken sandwich and the pulled pork meal. Sorry to say, but it was a huge disappointment. Portions were small, meat was dry and tasteless, fries were overcooked, and the single portion of BBQ sauce provided was far too sweet. The mac & cheese was the best part of the meal (although way overpriced), and it was just ok.
We were very excited to try this new place out but unfortunately we had one of the worst meals in a very long time. My pulled pork was cold and was way too fatty. The BBQ sauce was very watered down, too sweet, and with hardly any flavor. Mac and cheese was way too creamy, and the fries were mushy (likely sitting for too long). It's sad to have such a terrible experience as we were really hoping this one would have been better than the previous BBQ restaurant, but sadly it's far worse. I don't think it'll last very long as I've never seen it very busy.
