The best sushi I have found in Portland by a long shot! The fish is so fresh and the rolls are delicious. Couldn’t recommend more!
Jan 12, 2024. As much as I like Japanese food and their businesses, coming from someone who’s visited Japan 7 times in their life. This time it disappointed me because as a customer, I had no idea they are closing earlier than scheduled time when we had made a reservation for 7:30 (one and a half hour before they close) by phone 2 days before. They called me three times to confirm if I’m coming, and each time I said yes…. We came 3 minutes before our reservation even. As soon as we sat down, they pushed the menu in our faces wanting us to order before we had a chance to read the menu. The sashimi was mushy by the time we had it. And they even swung by to get our check twice within a minute. I had to rush finish eating in 30 minutes. I would not come back here again. As an Asian, I am disappointed to be treated this way.
The Murata Restaurant is the Creme de la Creme of Japanese Restaurants! High Quality and Hospitable service, guaranteed! They've been here since 1988, and the high quality and hospitable service has never waned!
Absolutely the most authentic Japanese dining experience in Portland that I know of. Great food, good & reliable service, great atmosphere.
I don't like to give bad reviews to such kind people. But you'll leave hungry and it's overrated. Everything tiny. Steak is so thin that why even ask for a temp lol. It's coming out mid well regardless. The nigiri was decent. All else fell far short including service. The servers were very nice but not great at actually doing their jobs. Had to ask for utensils, wasabi, personal plates to share the nigiri, and water as well. Take care y'all
Been going here for over 20 years. By far the best and most authentic Japanese restaurant in the Pacific NW
On a business trip and really wanted to try sushi in Portland since I heard great things. Found Murata using google search and was walking distance from my hotel. The restaurant is popular and gets crowded so I’m glad I called ahead and made reservations. The experience and food quality and taste reminded me of my trips to Tokyo. Sushi was perfect and prices were also reasonable. Can’t wait for my next trip to visit Murata again.
