Monsoon Izakaya Japanese Restaurant

Monsoon is a regular sushi spot for our family. They have always consistently been great but what puts them above and beyond is their customer service. I had tried to purchase some gift cards online but they weren’t sent and Andy was so great in communicating with me the entire time and made sure that he resolved the issue. I felt really taken care of and he was always checking in to make sure things were ok. Thank you to the amazing team at Monsoon for always giving our family such a great experience!

Food was absolutely delicious. Server was friendly. We ordered many different kinds of dishes, but everything was served in an organized manner! Beef tataki and sashimi were super fresh. Chicken karaage was MUST TRY. Mussels were so small but curry sauce tastes good. Some special rolls were new to us but absolutely amazing!

Monsoon Izakaya is a wonderful place to have dinner with family/friends. Sushi and sashimi is fresh and beautiful presentation. Manager is friendly also very energetic. Highly recommend for celebration birthday or anniversary.

Lovely place since the staff was able to fit my party in one area in using 4 tables. Though the orders did come out oddly since it was not the same waiter that took our order.

Amazing ramen! Definitely my fav place to go when I'm in the mood. Oh, and the sushi was pretty good, too.

Monsoon is one of my favourite places in Calgary, and I visit often. It's frustrating I have to write this review, but I’ve pretty much reached my limit for one specific reason: Monica (server) is useless. Serves your food, then disappears. Never follows-up, never checks to see if you need another drink (my biggest pet peeve), never swings by to see if you're finished and need the bill. Every single time I've had her as a server (maybe 10+ times) this has been the case. No joke. Whether the restaurant is quiet or busy, she never fails to disappoint. If customers are finished eating... maybe ask how they're doing. If someone's drink is empty, and maybe even strategically placed on the edge of the table (hint hint)... maybe ask how they're doing. Having a meal without a drink kind of ruins the experience. Sitting around after a meal wondering if you're invisible is a waste of time. Maybe I'm just a sucker for going back so often. Rant over.

They have an incredibly elaborate menu with Ramen, all kinds of sushi , very creative special rolls (including a truffle one that's DIVINE!). Their prIcing isn't off the charts. You're greeted by the happiest of employees! Fantastic non alcoholic drink menu as well as an awesome drink menu (Lychee martini is a real lychee martini) . I really can't say a bad word about this spot. The atmosphere is a mixture of traditional Japanese that's a bit modernized, I'd say. If you're a sushi fan, or Ramen, or Japanese food fan in general, give them a try! My man was stoked, and if HE is happy with it?....? It's good, haha.
