I love coming to Mikado. A gem we must keep alive. Everything was so fresh and delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant. Service was great! And they have karaoke now, what??!!
The sushi was so fresh, creative, amazing experience! We had a tuna tataki appetizer and multiple orders of Nigiri with Hokkaido scallops, New Zealand king, salmon, bluefin tuna, and a longhorn roll, and Fiery Kiss roll which were delicious! We will keep coming back!!!
I haven't been to Mikado since 2021. We decided to go recently and I wasn't disappointed but I also wasn't thrilled. First of all, the Sunday happy hour doesn't exist anymore. Also, the menu has gotten much shorter and cleaner - I guess that's a good thing but I must say, the previous menu was very elegant and had some great choices. MUST HAVE --> Spicy garlic edamame and hamachi chili/crudo. Both were really excellent. The edamame was enough to almost fill me up without paying a bunch of money. The crudo was really fresh and light -- I like the pop of slight spiciness from the small peppers. EH (don't worry if you miss these) --> 16 piece sashimi platter and Kanpachi sashimi. I've recently had sashimi at Tatsumi, TenTen, and Uchiko -- this doesn't compare at all. The sashimi is clean and fresh, which is great but there's no creativity. It's straight fish. So if you're looking for straight-up fish, this will suit you well. The Kanpachi sashimi was a special for the day. The texture was weird. The fish didn't have the "bite" of fresh fish. It was gummy and even stuck to the roof of my mouth. I'm not sure if this is the typical texture but I wouldn't order this again. I hope Mikado gets a makeover or gets more customers. I think they have potential but the space is starting to look more like a storage facility. When you first walk in, it's a bunch of plants in the corner and knickknacks around the hostess stand. It's not a good first impression.
The actual service for the sushi bar was very awkward and altogether bad, but the food itself is fantastic. Might be better with a group.
Worst Japanese food I've had in some time. Fried calimari and tempura were decent, but miso soup, sushi, and yakisoba all tasted off, not fresh. Two front of house staff hosting, waiting, and doing carryout so long waits on food. Had to wait 15 min waiting for old miso and funky sushi while my party got their yakisoba. Won't be going back again.
Great sushi and Japanese fare!
This place should be more well known. The food is amazing, and the service is great .
