Our first Jazz bar experience in NY!! Although we didn't a reserve a table beforehand, fortunately we managed to sit in the alley as we reached early. The ambience was soothing in terms of lighting and music. But was full on Saturday evening, each show was for 1.5hrs, table was $50 for two people, drinks were good but a bit pricey. If you could reserve a table then you will sit infront of the performers watching them 'live', otherwise soothe yourself just listening while enjoying your drinks. The bar was at the basement, had a steep staircase to go down and a narrow passage to go to main area where the musicians were performing. I liked the piano and cello combination more over the drums. Overall good experience. Only drawback is that the passage was too narrow to accommodate sitting arrangements on both sides while the servers running table to table with drinks!!
As the firstborn of Milton Mesirow Jr (now deceased) I am outraged at the treatment Milt received on his attendance. He was not offered a drink by staff. The invitation had come from The New York Times and NOT the owner. I attempted to contact the establishment via email. Meanwhile Milt jr. did not persue any compensation or even any hospitality
The owner Spike Wilner did not offer drink or food to the late son, Milton Mesirow jr when he was invited by the New York Times for an interview at the club.
Such an intimate space - really enjoyed it! And the service was wonderful, very attentive.
Fantastic little iconic NYC jazz club. You won’t want to miss out on this iconic gem!
We came on a rainy day. We were very lucky to get a spot. The place was jammed, but they made space for us. The bartender was very nice and made a delicious cocktail. The music was very elegant and special. It is not too loud and people respected the talents by whispering. I recommend to reserve a table to have a safe spot. But standing was cool.
Beautiful place for jazz lovers in the city. Very cozy enviornment. Not to mention, top-notched jazz music being performed. Bourbon on the rocks was also amazing to be paired with this decent vibe.
