Our family of 8 wanted a restaurant that was fast and delicious AND appealing to our toddlers. We chose the McDonald's on Toronto Road in Springfield, IL. We were in the middle of an eight hour drive from a camping weekend. The dilemma is that I am allergic to gluten and dairy. No problem I said. Right across the parking lot is a Subway. I can get a salad and eat inside of McDonald's with the rest of the family. As soon as I sat down the manager said that I couldn't eat outside food in their restaurant. I told him that I had allergies and could not eat anything from the McDonald's menu. He just repeated that I couldn't eat outside food in his restaurant. As other family members arrived my brother said he'd handle it and called the manager over. He was a little more pleasant to my brother than me (a 72 year old woman). He stated that it was a public health concern and didn't want contaminated food in their restaurant. I sat with my family, food unopened. Next time I will not chose any McDonald's. It seems to be an over-the-top rule for a place that has a restricted menu. In the future our family of 6 adults and 2 kids will go somewhere else.
