Matteo Trattoria & Pizzeria St Pete

I have always loved Matteo's, last night wasn't one of them. There were several hiccups with dinner last night. First they were slow to take our order. Salads were not delivered at the same time. Then 30 minutes after the salads they came back and said they were out of one dish we had ordered. So we ordered something else. Then 10 minutes later they came back and said they were out of yet another dish we had ordered. Our dinner was finally delivered 10 minutes later. The food of course was delicious. They were very apologetic. It just seemed to be a breakdown in communication with the staff. They did compensate us for our inconvenience, which we really appreciated. We were there for over 2 hours.

Ordered my food from Grubhub. It was supposed to arrive at a certain time and the driver was still at the restaurant for over 30 minutes waiting on my food. They shouldn’t accept the order if they can’t fulfill it that’s very bad service

Silverware, twice, was dirty. It was hard to get out drinks and we watched them sit on the service bar for 10 minutes.

Cozy Italian spot with good food and even better service. It was hard to choose what to order because there were such great options - we ended up each getting pasta and then a pizza to share. We’ll have to come back to try some other items too! I got the Strozzapretti Della Casa pasta because I had never had a pasta dish like that and it did not disappoint. I got to try a bite of the Alfredo with the eggplant and tomatoes and it was really good with a somewhat Smokey flavor in there. The Carnivora pizza was really good - I wasn’t sure at first because it was difficult to pick up as the dough was too thin but the flavor was there for sure. Shoutout to our server, she made great recommendations and was such a sweetheart. We loved talking with her. I cannot recall her name but she was from Albania. While the food was good, it was definitely the cozy vibe and the service that amplified the experience to five stars. We found this restaurant via Offline Tampa Bay. Vegetarian options: There were vegetarian options in each section and it was easy to remove the meat from your order. Parking: It’s right in the heart of it all so parking was difficult even on a Wednesday we had to go down a few streets. Kid-friendliness: Seating was tight and it was a more cozy vibe so I wouldn’t bring young kids.

Two weeks ago they stopped giving bread and olive tapenade to all customers. As my bff said, "how can an Italian restaurant not serve bread?!" after having done so since their opening. In addition, their happy hour wine pour is the size of a thimble.....AND....I ordered the happy hour Caesar salad with chicken breast and some "extra Caesar dressing ". I used maybe 10% of the side of dressing. .....and I was charged $2 for the privilege. Sadly, Matteo has turned into the Carnival Cruise Lines of St Pete dining.

Carnivore pizza is the best I have had in a long time. Maximo knows how to make & perfectly baked. Italian sausage is outstanding! Don't change the recipe!!

Top notch quality, friendly staff. Does not disappoint.
