Matador East Portland

I had never heard of Matador and my friends suggested it for our next lunch gathering. I like Mexican food but am never blown away by it. The decor was super nice and because of the good weather they had a lot of windows open. First thing they brought out was some chips and salsa. The salsa was one of the best I’ve had and I just could not stop eating it. So flavorful and not watery. For my lunch I had the Habanero Steak burrito. The waitress, Sara, told me that all the burritos are served “wet” style when I asked if they could prepare it that way. In case you don’t know that is when they put the red enchilada sauce, cheese, and sour cream on top of the burrito. This is more a fork and knife style burrito that something from a fast food or chipotle style place and so much better. My burrito was hands down the best burrito I may have ever had. It was so fresh and flavorful. It also had some nice spice that actually got my nose running! Sara was also a spectacular waitress. She was absolutely on it. Sara blew away the service I’ve gotten at “high end” places like Ruth’s Chris’, Morton’s, Peter Lugar’s, etc. never needed to ask for a refill, she recommend drinks for my friends that they all loved, and was genuinely nice. At the end of the meal Sara asked if we wanted 7 separate checks! We were pleasantly surprised by this as most places lose their minds. She brought out 7 separate checks that were absolutely flawless! Not one mixed up or switched item. No way I could have done that! This place earned the 5/5 and I for sure will be going back.

I came from out of town and it was nice to sit down and eat some fish tacos.

Nice mexican restaurant with a lot of choices for coktails and food. Decoration also nice. Not expensive for the quality you get

Our daughter says this is her favorite place to eat and wanted us to experience it with her. I'm glad we did. The food was fantastic, the portions were generous, the service was amazing, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Thanks for a great meal.

About 30 min wait not bad we waited at the bar. Great food and the service was fantastic this is the women who signed us up when we came in the door too. Bar keep was on the ball you-all gave me and my wife a great night out. Thank you Roy Hahn Parking: We had to park 2 and 1/2 blocks down the road on a back street. But the walk was short over all.

Absolutely wonderful experience dining here the other day. Could not possibly rate this restaurant higher. The food? Amazing. Their Carnitas is the best I've tasted in several years, and Carnitas is a dish I order very often. Their grande nachos are outrageously good, and I've never had a better value for the money while dining in Portland. If you walk into this restaurant, and walk by several tables, I guarantee you will notice these nachos on at least a few of these tables... and you won't be able to miss them because the plate is so huge! The black beans are just to die for! However, the reason this restaurant gets the highest marks for me is because of the service. Our party had one diner with, well, let's just say A LOT of dietary restrictions. Perhaps coming to a Mexican restaurant was not the best option for us under these circumstances... The staff and the management both went out of their way to make sure they were 100% accommodated, even going so far as to replacing a dish that was ordered after it was determined to be too spicy. And they did so happily and without any hesitation or begrudging. Their commitment to our satisfaction was so refreshing, and it was greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Very tasty food, very friendly staff

I got the matador bowl with carnitas and it's one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever had. Delicious. I can't wait to come back here.
