Sandwiches were sub-par, got #4, and I personally would not recommend putting broccoli rabe in a sandwich. The bitter taste is tasted throughout the sandwich, better as a side. And the salad was awful. I think it was the Anthony salad. The balsamic vinaigrette was so strong, I was coughing on the vinegar so many times. Honestly the most disappointing italian joint I’ve been to, in a long time.
After being seated a waitress brought a “Special Menu” for the evening.Prices on these few items were not listed but when we decided to pick TWO of them we assumed the risk. After all on the main list the most expensive items ran between $28-$32. At the beginning we had but one question – Does the scampi contains garlic? The answer was NO. However, after we gave the waitress a moment, she decided to revise her first answer to YES. Being allergic to garlic , we decided to avoid the dish anyway. Consequently one of us chose to stay with the “Special Appetizer” for the moment. The “Special Appetizer” plate arrived quickly. It was called “Seafood Salad” and it contained 3 shrimps, a few calamari rings, some minuscule pieces of red hot pepper, all laying on a bed of spinach and other green little leaves. The whole plate was recently taken out of the fridge and enriched with some vinegar. Nice picture, unfortunately not much taste. The attitude of the waitress worsened when she heard that while we were about to order an Entrée, my wife will decide if she will order another one a bit later. After only five minutes the waitress returned asking my wife again, if she decided already what the second plate will be. As we were still thinking about, the waitress, obviously upset, aggressively picked up the menus off the table and turned her back. The Entrée only came late. 45 minutes late. It took them that long to warm it up in the microwave. The “Special entrée” contained 4 shrimps, 4 mussels, 4 clams, all covered by a thin red sauce (acceptable in taste but nothing to write home about), all on a scarce bed of linguine. We ordered a couple of desserts. They were not “home made”. When they brought the bill, we received the Customer and the Merchant Visa charges. Strangely, the list of items consumed, was missing. We had to request it from the supervisor. When arrived, she warned us: You are aware that there is a 2% Visa Charge. People do not understand that. Never seen a more ridiculous restaurant bill. This little joint has but a few tables outside, on the sidewalk. One eats his food while aspiring whatever gases the cars passing by every second, are exhausting. The prices they are charging for the inadequately service are proper in Manhattan perhaps, not next to a gas station in Roseland, N.J. Here is how our bill looked : Appetizer special - $18.00 Entrée Special - $40.00 SHARING CHARGE – not warned about in advance - $8.00 (By the way how come they bill a “Sharing Charge” when each customer did pay for their own dish ? Manual Item (??????) - $3.50 (Mysterious charge) Dessert 1 - $7.00 Dessert 2 - $7.00 Taxes and Fees - $8.20 TOTAL - $91.70 Plus Tips, of course ! CONCLUSION : “MARRA’s IS NOT A PLACE WHERE THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE A PLEASANT EVENING. IT IS A PLACE AFTER YOUR MONEY, ANY WAY POSSIBLE, REGARDLESS OF YOUR SATISFACTION. NEVER AGAIN !
