Wonderful place to get away from the noise and bustle of the city. I got a tea and sandwich which was delicious. I saw someone else on here complain about the time it took to get served, that was not my experience. I barely waited five minutes for my order to arrive! Will be coming back very soon.
You'll notice that many of the reviews here comment on the lack of service. There's a reason for that. Ordered coffee. They don't have cream. You'd think a flossy, upscale place like this would have cream, but ... no. Okay. Coffee isn't great and not that hot, but it is what it is. The waiter disappears. Never saw him again. Literally. An hour passes? I ask the hostess for a waiter. Nothing. I ask the busboy for the manager. A different waiter finally appears. Nice fellow. Takes our order. The manager wanders over, and everything about him exemplifies "I don't care." So I finally understand why the original waiter was so lackluster: It's the leadership. It usually is. This is a great venue and would be terrific place to if they could find a manager who could, I dunno; manage.
A wonderful winter space with dark wood, couches and a fireplace. One of the few bars in NYC to enjoy good mulled wine. The crowd is decent and cool despite the old school elegant vibe of this place. Not sure why the description says closing at 6, it is definitely open as a lobby bar way after 6pm. It was weird though that they don't serve tea after 6pm.
Asked for my burger cheese only and medium. Came out rare and with pickles and a bunch of stuff on it. I set it at the edge of the table assuming the waitress would say something and she didn’t care. Waitress who was working today was snobby and not good. Terrible experience
Gluten free croque madame. Yes, please! If you have CIRS, sit outside.
A hidden gem in the city to hide out in with a good book on a cold and rainy day.
El café delicioso, muy tranquilo, perfecto para leer un rato.
Service is inexcusably slow
It's at most 30°F , snowing, and outright miserable outside. What do you do? How does a cozy as heck, politely quiet as a library, lobby that doubled as a Cafe and bar sound? With a roaring fireplace that you can cozy up to while you drink coffee or tea out-of gorgeous looking cupware and have your pick of a variety of seating arrangements to choose from, and nobody cares if you need to take your shoes off to crouch-sit like a neurodiverse goblin. Oh yeah, it's a slice of heaven is what it sounds like. With super friendly staff who both see to your needs and know to leave you alone to just enjoy the vibe while you eat, work on your laptop, listen to that audiobook or read. Whatever. They don't rush you out. It's a bohemian dream. Just be sure to bring a credit card or something they can hold onto as collateral for your tab, though they do take cash. HIGHLY recommend the tomato soup. JUST LOOK AT IT! And it's not bland, it's properly spiced. Maybe too spicy for some but absolutely perfect for me. Vegetarian options: The Tuscan Basil tomato soup is to die for.
