Mama Ji's is really good, but I feel that they have slipped a bit since their heyday (i.e., pre-Covid). I like the shrimp dumplings and steamed buns, but after eating the same items at dim sum places in the Richmond I can tell that the ones at Mama Ji's don't have quite the same freshness or depth of flavor. Nonetheless, it's a nice option for lunch in the neighborhood. I hope they bring back the turnip cakes!
My favorite sichuan spot in SF <3
An unexpectedly authentic Chinese culinary gem in the neighborhood! A casual go-to spot where locals frequent, showcasing the Chinese cuisine.
As authentic and pridefully-made Sichuan cooking goes, this is indeed one of the best places in the City. Maybe *the* best. It ain't really a dumpling or dim sum house and the menu is unique and largely exotic, but if you know what to order ~ the Dry-fried anything, Kung pao, Fish w/ chilis & Sichuan peppercorns, Crispy eggplant, or be adventurous ~ you will experience one of the best Chinese meals currently offered in S.F.
Best Szechuan AND Belgian beer selection in the city! Unmissable: Chongqing chicken, and the dry fried string beans. Make sure to try whatever Belgian beer you don’t recognize on the menu, too. Mama Ji’s had closed for nearly six months due to a plumbing issue and during that time we tried (unsuccessfully) to find a replacement Szechuan place elsewhere in the city. This is the best!
Authentic, interesting, flavorful dishes made of very high quality ingredients. You can feel the love put into these dishes. Incredible food. Different dishes have different types of spicy. They work magic back there in that kitchen.
My husband and I are deeply obsessed with this restaurant - it has the BEST chongqing chicken I have ever tasted. I once asked them how they were able to perfect it and they ship the spices in from China. It's just out of this world delicious. I live in fear that they will be priced out of SF
