Great food...first time there..its my new sandwich spot!!!!

It’s hard to find timeless, authentic diners here in Sarasota. So coming here for lunch was a treat. The Lido sandwich was excellent, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was that old school vibe that is disappearing from this area.

Love this place! Alexander the Great is my Sandwich of choice! A very healthy one at that!

So, I really like the staff as well as the environment - Main Bar has a very old school, New York diner feel but the prices. They don't match the proportions...at all. A (shockingly small) roast beef with a pickle wedge, a spoonful (literally a table spoon) of coleslaw & a cup of coffee came to $18. There's more empty plate than food. Ooof - the plate vs price ratio really was a surprise. Nifty setting but the prices... this is not for people who are protective of their wallet. TWICE the meal, for far less, just up the street at Carrousel. Ten times the sandwich available at Detwilers for $8.

The picture is what a $28 lunch looks like from Main Bar Sandwich Shop. I got the Muffuletta, and it tastes just like it looks... Bread is dry, stale, and low quality. Toppings are not fresh. Meat was OK (I am searching here). Condiments that I paid extra for were not on sandwich. 3/4 of the whole pickle I paid for was all I received, and to top it off, the pickles had been previously frozen and then thawed (or terribly mishandled) causing a slimy disintegrating inedible mess. The best part of this experience is that Uber Eats arrived early, so I didn't have to wait to find out how bad this place is. And neither did the office full of people who told me how good the place is. Not only am I disappointed, but they are embarrassed they recommended this establishment. Grossly overpriced and just plain gross.

Well over a year ago I posted a review for Main Bar. At that time we were going every Saturday. They are still using it today as the most recent!? Kelly I mentioned doesn’t even work there anymore! We use to go weekly and slowed down because of the pricing getting out of hand. Today we thought let’s just grab a sandwich (each) to go. A Turkey sandwich and a Ham sandwich was $25. Not Horrible but not great. The quality was disgusting! The bread and the Pita were both hard as rock and they must have gone to a cheaper quality of meat as it tasted Horrible. I still have an after taste. We’ve never been fans of the woman who owns it as she is not at all personable. Even when we were there weekly she never even acknowledged our presence. I’ve lived here my whole life and always loved the Main Bar. This is so disappointing. Another Sarasota icon ruined.
