Following a walk tour of historic Charleston, we were left at the Pineapple Fountain not sure of what to do other than we wanted to eat! A short walk to East Bay St provided the answer as we arrived at Magnolia's at just the right time. On our list to try but struggling to get a reservation we were pleasantly surprised when we snagged a walk-in friendly bar high table. Score! Offering classics from the south Magnolia's has a nice selection of options for the lunch time crowd. Our meal included The Tomato Bisque Soup (very good...nice, light and very tasty but without an overall tomato-y taste) followed by the Crab Cake Sandwich (excellent...super tasty and crispy crab cake with a great sauce) and the Fried Green Tomato BLT (also excellent with nice crispy bacon and also a great sauce). Service was super friendly (as you'd expect from in the South...clearly I'm from the North) in a busy, hoping and casual environment. Definitely worth a visit but try to get a reservation first (or come before noon) when within minutes of noon the walk-in's take all the available tables. Enjoy!
Had been looking forward to Magnolias after countless recommendations. Good food, though the service was lacking with our server forgetting about us in the back dining room. For a restaurant trying to put together an atmosphere encompassing food and service it lacked the service arm for Sunday brunch. Be aware if you plan a special occasion that staff is not as attentive (at least for this Sunday brunch experience).
I don't leave reviews that often, but Magnolia's will live in my mind for a long time. What a perfect dining experience! Excellent food! Our waitress and all of the staff were wonderful and the ambience was just what we were looking for. If you want something a little up scale that won't break the bank, and want some of the best food Charleston has to offer, be sure to get a reservation at Magnolia's!
We ate at Magnolias on a Thursday evening and I can safely say it was one of the best meals I’ve eaten! We were seated in the back room which was delightfully quieter than the bustling front room. Though not vegetarian, I chose the vegetarian paella and it was superb!! My husband raved about his seafood bouillabaisse. Would not miss this restaurant if in the area!
Vegetarian options: Vegetable paella and the Brussel sprouts without bacon were incredible!
The food was great. I knew going into it that the restaurant would be pricey but a $200 lunch stung a bit. Our waiter actually spilled a drink on our table and the lap of someone in our group. He was was very apologetic. I honestly figured they might comp part of the meal but I'm not the type to demand that stuff. The check came at full price without a mention of the glass sweet tea we were wearing.
