I've been to four different locations and loved Macado's for years but things are really going downhill at a couple locations. The Blacksburg store has a complete lack of management - the new "GM" sits at the bar drinking and apparently does nothing else. They fired their best bartender and some of the new ones aren't very good. They barely had any heart turned on in January & February and the Men's room is just disgusting. At the Harrisonburg location there's a bartender that consistently overcharges compared to the prices at other locations and the Men's room there is so ripe I could smell it before I even opened the door. The people running this company needs to get some standards and then enforce them.
March 4, 2024 - I haven’t visited all 19 Macados locations, but this eclectic Pub whips up the BEST New York Deli sandwiches! ( outside NY) The atmosphere is nostalgic, with fun Americana memorabilia all over the walls ! ( Almost perfect, I’ll offer One suggestion ) Macado’s was an off shoot from Roland Macher ( the father) who started up a delicatessen in Harrisonburg in the early 1970’s. . . called Spanky’s. Later, Richard ( the Son) established Macado’s Restaurant in 1978 in Roanoke, VA. Over 40 years later, Macado’s expanded to 19 locations mostly in VA, with a few in TN, NC, and WV ! What a fun place, with good Pub style food! With college’s nearby, ( James Madison University across the street from this Macado’s location) there’s a young trendy mix in clientele. The menu offers: *30 NY style deli sandwiches *8 different salads *4 types of Tacos *6 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches *6 Wraps *10 different Burgers *6 or more Entrees ( specials) Sandwich Names . . . Icons ! Babe Ruth, Godfather, Coney Island, Lone Ranger, Bonnie & Clyde, etc. My wife loved the Babe Ruth, which had turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato. My stacked sandwich, the Brooklyn Bridge included roast beef, turkey, and ham, lettuce, tomato , requested on rye bread . . . GREAT! As a 50 year Fan of the Washington ( Redskins) Football team so cool to see the old jerseys of Sonny Jurgenson & Billy Kilmer! Along side the JMU Bulldog! Fun vibe throughout the pub, with St. Patrick’s decorations coming out in March! Overall, great NY deli sandwiches spot for all travelers in need of refreshments! Suggestion: I would add an extensive beer list of domestic & foreign beers ! I inquired about Irish ales, not much to pick from? Guinness yes, but not much else from Ireland, England, Germany, Netherlands?
This was one of my favorite places to eat. The statues they have and they have celebrity signed guitars. The food was delicious and the service was fast and the server was nice. Definitely recommend to anyone in the valley or traveling though. It has multiple locations in virginia and the food was reasonably priced. Love this place!!!!
