3.5 is my rating… 3 for the dorms and 4 for the private room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Location was central but in a more rough area. The first night we stayed in a dorm room because they were sold out of king rooms and we were told to bring back our bedding to the front desk… I’ve never experienced this in a hostel before (I’ve stayed in plenty around the world). Personally, I think my patience for hostels is now limited… I probably would only stay in one again when travelling solo because we had some inconsiderate dorm mates. If I would have known the sheets needed to be removed by guests in dorms, I probably would’ve just picked a hotel because I was looking for a more relaxing experience. In the second two nights, we stayed in a king room, which was great! I recommended the private rooms, 100%. The overall atmosphere felt much more like a hotel, which is fine for me… but if you’re looking to meet people, perhaps this isn’t the spot for you. The cafe was affordable for a bite to eat in the morning, but the bar downstairs had the most expensive beer we saw in Montreal (more than in touristy old Montreal even), I found this atypical for a hostel. Overall, if you must stay in a hostel, this place is clean and central… but in Canada, hostels aren’t amazing and I suggest you try to find a hotel instead if you can make the budget work. Walkability: Close to UQAM metro
A hostel that absolutely defies the hostel stereotype. Premium rooms, fantastic amenities, and convenient location at the Berri-UQAM subway hub. Staff are very helpful and available at all hours of the night. Diarmuid and Isaac, who work the front desk night shift, know how to look out for all the interesting patrons that wander back to their rooms during wee-hours of the night (including myself). Should be the top choice for those looking for an affordable, but still posh, place to stay in MTL. Rooms: Very clean and premium feeling. Nearby activities: Stereo, Old Port, The Village
One of our favorite in Montreal!
Séjour au M Montreal fort agréable, je recommande vivement cet hôtel, l’ambiance, le staff, le jacuzzi tout est réuni pour vous combler petit plus à Emma et Ania qui furent absolument délicieuses avec moi durant le séjour
More of a hotel than a hostel in both pricing and experience. The good: Central location near the metro, clean and nicely furnished rooms with a smart design (locker integrated in bed) The bad: No breakfast included, only purchasable at an expensive rate, same with washing machines and dryers (10$ is quite the premium). The ugly: Does not have the hostel experience, interaction is rare between guests and makes it feel sterile. Price is one of the highest I have seen so far, for that you at least get cleanliness and good furniture. Too long didnt read: Pricy but clean, more of a hotel with no breakfast than a hostel where you will meet interesting characters
I'm really enjoying my stay thanks to the friendly service from Issac at the hostel front desk
I had a wonderful time at m montreal. Upon entering this place the design was opening elegant and warm. Isaac and Diarmuid made it all worth while with their impeccable service.
The M is a wonderful place to stay! My travel companion and I have stayed there twice now for a total of 10 nights on trips to visit a dear friend of ours (who conveniently lives just around the block ), and it was a great experience both times. The rooms are tidy and stylish, the staff is kind and courteous, and the whole property just has a great vibe. Berri-UQAM is a 5-minute walk at worst, and the Village has so many great shops, restaurants, and attractions. My only warning is if you have a large vehicle (think like an F-150 or Chevy Tahoe or larger), you may not be able to fit in the on-site parking garage. I was able to get my Buick Enclave in and out okay, but it was a struggle when there were other similar-sized SUVs in the garage. There is both an above-ground lot (not owned by the M) across the street, as well as an underground parking lot in Place Dupuis that can accommodate larger vehicles, so you won't have to park too far away even if! So yeah, as long as you aren't needing to park a behemoth of a vehicle on-site, the M will almost certainly satisfy all your needs and then some! We'll definitely back whenever we're in Montréal.
