Portion sizes are large so me and my husband split the chicken and waffles, cornbread and mac and cheese. We took leftovers home still. Food was ahhhhmazing! Best cornbread and mac and cheese I have ever had! It is a casual spot.

Arrived with a party of 4 on an unusually busy day (Sunday at 7pm), started to regret not making a reservation. No tables available and asked the cashier if we needed to order and then sit down as it wasn't clear if there were waiters who would take our order at the table. The cashier told me that if we wanted to dine in we would need to join the waitlist until there was an open seat for us. Fine, we waited. Come back after getting the call there was space for us, and we all wait in line to be seated. Another staff member came up and instructed us to sit. We watch as all tables start clearing out and wonder when and if the waiter would arrive. Probably sat there for about 20 minutes and went up to the counter where the same cashier told us that we needed to order, then sit down. Then why didn’t you tell us that when we were told to sit at the table?! Whatever, at this point we order and just wait. Food takes about 20 minutes and it is clear that everything was made fresh. The person who was cleaning tables (and also possibly the owner?) saved the meal by being extremely warm, kind and attentive to what we needed. He even reminded us about our deserts and helped our friend order waffles to go! These were the best waffles I’ve had ever-and the chicken was crisp and flavorful. But the beignets were the most memorable, having them freshly fried was life changing. I would recommend this place, but would ask that the staff be better about communicating the process. I am sure there are other instances of people walking out because they get frustrated not knowing what is going on. We are definitely going back to try Luella’s brunch!

Well to start you have to pay before you eat. You have to get your own water and utensils.we had a party of 10 so that was kind of difficult. No glasses to drink out of. We had to drink out of stainless steel cups. You could your own bottles of wine and or spirits.the food was excellent and extremely good. I just didn't like that the food was coming out at different times. So some of us were finish eating and some were beginning to eat. That wasn't right to me , we should've all ate about the same time. I would most definitely go back , just not with a party of 10.

I was excited to try this place after Foxcito reviewed them and gave them an award. This place was just ok. If I returned I would only get the biscuits and jam. My best friend I ordered the chicken and waffles, I ordered the Nashville but received regular. No biggie. It comes with 1 wing, thigh and drumstick if I remember correctly. The chicken had absolutely no flavor, almost a waste of a trip if you ask me. It was also barely fried snd the skin was more chewy than it was crispy. I hate that for my chicken. My best friends waffle was overcooked and they didn’t give us much syrup on the waffles. Their ordering system could use some help as well, I would suggest having physical menus so that people can make decisions based on what time of day it is and what they are currently offering. They gave us metal tin cups like we were in prison to drink their water. Made me feel weird, I would have preferred mason jars, that’s more southern than metal tin cups. I also ordered a side of eggs that came with no seasoning and there was no salt or pepper at the table. Despite the 2 guys working to clear tables and help out I asked for more jam and never got it. The waffle would have been good with extra syrup and if the chicken was seasoned and crispy I would definitely give them another star at least but for now, i’ll stick to grabbing real soul food from the southside where the food is cooked and has seasoning. Also apparently they are byob but I had no idea because they don’t advertise or push this feature but this would have been good to know.

Its been over a decade since I visited Luella’s since it opened. I recall that they had so many customers their first week, they literally ran out of food. I’m glad to see that all items on the menu was available, but even more impressed with the quality and flavors in this southern comfort food establishment. The shrimp & grits was creamy and buttery with shrimp that had the classic cajun spice and dark roux gravy. Excellent!! The chicken & waffles was also outstanding. The chicken was moist from the buttermilk soak with a crispy crust on the skin with honey drizzle. The salty sweet contrasts and fluffy waffle was perfect match. Finished with freshly made to order beignets smothered in powder sugar made for a nice ending. While many restos have closed on this strip, Luella’s continues to outshine. Keep up the great food and service. This neighborhood needs this comfort food!!

Just going to put it out there... We arrived on Saturday at Noon. There was 4 of us. We were told one hour to be seated. It took 2 hours to be seated. That was my only issue. Whom every is working the front should be able to give better times on the wait for a table. Make a reservation is my recommendation. This is a nice, small quaint resturant. Good for a cozy first date, family time or brunch with the girls. They are BYOB. So the food really made up for the long wait. The Shrimp & Grits were amazing. Definitely old school grits. Not that box quick grit stuff. My left overs tasted even better the next day. I also ordered the Buttermilk biscuits with sweet potatoes which were also amazing. The sweet potatoes, Collard greens, Mac n' cheese where delicious. I samples my friends. All and all with a reservation I would definately go back.

It was great! Dietary restrictions: Most of the food options have pork in it, but there are some very tasty options! Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
