Awesome place - great food and atmosphere
This used to be one of my favourite restaurants in the city - sadly this restaurant has gone so downhill.. the service was awful, we really felt like an inconvenience for even being there.. the host stand, server and food runner were all incredibly grumpy and should not be working in the hospitality industry.
Not much vegetarian options.
This place used to have really good Mexican food but now it’s a disgrace. Service sucks too.
As a Mexican I felt sooooo bad that people are making so much money just because they add whatever they want to a tortilla. They don’t even offer salsa or limes. Come on’ guys have you even been to Mexico to sell what is considered Mexican even if is a fusion. Pork Belly Pastor I don’t think they don’t even know what pastor tastes like, Mexican food is about fresh ingredients, not canned, grilled pineapple on top of a cold pork belly with out seasoning. Shrimp taco. I’m pretty sure they sliced 1 SHRIMP and added extra batter, terrible witted lettuce and that sweet sauce that tested more like sweet and sour sauce. I love when my culture and food is shared around the world, but it feels so wrong that my culture is being exploited for profit and not honoured at all In such a way that the basic ingredients are not eve there. I have never feel what cultural appropriation feels like, Today I felt it and I had to walk it off because something felt so wrong in my heart. I know I’m just another client complaining about a restaurant, but I something felt so bad that I had to pay paid $113 with a 18% tip for my hard working money to get 4 cold tacos, short ribs (these one were great) and 2 drinks that I couldn’t even taste the alcohol. Sad reality of Humanity now a days.
I got 3 tacos, my partner got 2, incredibly overpriced for what you receive. $8-9 each for a very small portion. These taco prices are getting out of hand.
the best tacos i have had since such a long time ago.
Love love this food. will definitely recommend
Went to La Carnita on John for the first time to meet up with a friend. It was a lot busier than I was expecting for February, but I guess Thursday night is the night to be out. We had a good table by a window upstairs. The interior brick of the building is a nice touch to remind you of how old the building probably is. My friend took advantage of the margarita special and I had mojitos. Not feeling beer these days, so it was a nice drink to remind me of summer days ahead. For food, we started with some guacamole and chips then both had the Thursday special - Fajitas. I had mine without shrimp. They were highly recommended by our server as he said they were way better than the tacos. Hard to ignore that pitch. My fajitas were very tasty. All I wish was there were more. Overall I liked La Carnita and would go back to try the tacos as I have heard from many that is their thing. It was a little loud when we first arrived making it hard to talk, but as the evening went on, it became easier to hear. Thanks to La Carnita for making it a nice night out in downtown Toronto.
