"Meh." Is the best way to describe this place. Rolls fall apart, fish quality is inferior, it's just not worth a visit. If Red Lobster were a sushi joint, this would be it.
"good happy hour" They get really busy during their happy hour. We did wait for 10-15 minutes but we didn't make a reservation so that's pretty good for a Saturday night. The food and service was good. Loved the environment for sushi and drinks. Can't go wrong here
"Where Sushi and Glamour Meet" This is absolutely my favorite sushi place in Seattle! It is right in the heart of downtown, right above Pikes Place which is a prime location for fresh seafood. Everything I have order has been absolutely prefect, the quality of fish is awesome and the menu is spectacular with endless options! The happy hour is a great option because this sushi place is a little more spendy but totally worth it! When going to the happy hour (before 2:30 don't make that mistake) I would suggest the Mexican Ninja which is a spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, topped w/ shrimp, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, garlic ponzu and thee Sweet Seduction which is a eel, cucumber, topped w/ snow crab, soy glaze, coconut mango glaze. They have a great well drink menu and its super fun to try during happy hour because it is so cheap! If you don't make it there by 2:30 I would highly suggest getting the Casanova, Matador, King Midas! The Casanova is a king crab, avocado, shibazuke, topped w/ seared spicy snow crab, scallops, tobiko, served w/ soy glaze, pico de gallo. The Matador is a yellow tail, cilantro, cream cheese, topped w/ spiced filet mignon, drizzled w/ jalapeño garlic la-yu sauce. The King Midas is a spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado, topped w/ yellowtail, cilantro, lime, jalapeño.
The sushi was exquisite, the bento box was excellent for lunch as well. Elegant design, superb service
$20 per roll but it sure tastes fresh! Make a reservation to be sure you are seated for dinner without a long wait. We called at 4 pm and were able to make a 6:30 pm reservation. Great location by Public Market!
$5 for Seattle roll during happy hour is a steal, and fresh salmon $11 ea for sweet seduction and wicked sensation rolls is ok too. The tuna on the wicked tasted a little funky, but ok.
Fiverst and foremost when eating raw fish, it must be very fresh and high quality. Japonessa's seafood excels in both categories. The plates are beautifully presented and if some of the sushi combinations try too hard, the more standard offerings are reliable and delicious. Fried calamari -of which I had sworn off but was cajoled into trying - is elevated to a new realm. The sauce is delicious and it sits on a bed of perfectly dressed greens. The waitstaff is pleasant and quick but beware the hostess station. On more than one occasion a hostess acted as though she was doing our party a favor by seating us and once was truly rude. The noise level is high...sometimes very high.
#Sushi ...WTF ..Happy HOUR IS every hour except 8-10pm ... Even lunch time.. Kirin and sapporro drafts all day for me please. Japonessa is on hopin... Sashimi set is the first choice, good quality with reasonable cuts. Luv the sushi rolls, a good amount to choose from. The ones on hh fair pretty well, staples being the bad boy and spicy yellowtail.. I think what else helps japonessa are the supplemental dishes, i need my protein fix. Ginger chicken, garlic short ribs, takoyaki, options... Though the standout is the tempura brie... to note, this is one of the old Umi chefs.. Japonessa is just outright awesome!
"That wasn't a short review"...ok, fine, here's a short review! "Yeah, Sushi Roll, Let Me See That Sushi Roll, Get Up and Roll Just Make That Sushi Roll"! "Japonessa Sushi Cuccina" is definitely taking over, literally located at the "Heart" of the city and putting in work as one of the top restaurant period in Seattle. Everything about this fine establishment is on point, top-notch service, great locale, lively and serene ambiance, and extraordinary food! The food offered is straight "Cash Money", generous, delicious, and fresh, unlike neighboring sushi spots that fell off (Umi Sake House, Wasabi Bistro), Japonessa spits "Hot Fire" every-time in their execution. May "Japonessa" continue on "Fire Flame, Flame, Fire Flame Spitting", cause right now they're the "Bizness", "5-Star Stuntin" and worthy of my salute, "Shine On"!
