Went out, had a girl's night with a friend, and got some delicious espresso martinis. Worth it!

Doesn’t serve food later in the evening and no prices on their menu. Didn’t stick around.

I never wanted to write this review, and for over a year convinced myself not to. But circumstances led me to this. There are big problems with this bar. There's a customer who apparently was in the tech industry and sold his company to a big tech firm and became a multimillionaire, who comes here and will have a typical, 'normal' bill of $80 but leaves a $2,000 tip, on average. Pretty crazy, and as a result, he gets to do whatever he wants. He can go behind the bar whenever and however long he wants, when the rest of us are asked to leave at closing and we leave but go to Duane Reade and then walk back towards our apartment, the bar is still open - for him. He is a slovenly, fat, bearded-looking guy. You can't miss him. He lives nearby at 20 Exchange. I'm sorry but as a man, when you're giving insane amounts of money to women (female bartenders only), what do you think that implies? At a minimum, it implies control and obedience. And the manager is OK with this, since she created and fostered this environment. This means that if you're a local who has been living in the neighborhood for a long time, and regular, loyal customer like I was, and you never went to the bar directly next door out of loyalty, you'll never mean anything to the bartenders or manager (Deidre). If you're like me and have a bill somewhere around $50 and leave what you think is a 'decent' tip of $20, for example, the bartenders are laughing on the inside. They are comparing it to their millionaire's tips. The manager has created an environment where she doesn't want her bartenders to be anything more than bartenders. Look, it's fine to hire young females only as your bartenders, but the implication is that they are young and want to do other things and leave at some point. The bartenders here are essentially relegated to this, and nothing else. I think the manager knows how to manipulate them, ever so slightly, to have them think this is really all they are capable of and should be happy with what they have. So opposite to my beliefs for people, in general. And for women, in particular. I thought I was friends with the bartender, Kate. But one day I was walking on the sidewalk and saw her with someone walking towards me and was about to say hi and she clearly saw me and looked down at the ground and whispered something to the guy she was with. I don't understand - I did nothing to her and hadn't seen her for several months and wanted to say hi. I was treated like a dog, actually less than a dog, in my own neighborhood where I've lived since 2006. A dog gets attention and a quick little pat on the head - that's better than what I received. Aside from that, this bar had its use, as a sleepy bar that sometimes makes sense when you just want to have a drink and be left alone. The bar closes early (around midnight) but that's ok for what it is. They're not even open anymore on Saturdays but when they were, they'd close at 8 pm, which was a bit odd, but ok. But I have to say, and I say this with respect even if the above didn't happen, the food is not very good. Sorry but it's true. It's just generally not very good - the food is simply not tasty. It's just food to take away your hunger. The prices of drinks are in line for the neighborhood so that's fine. But the prices of the food (in conjunction to what I said above) are too high. It's such a terrible feeling to know how much favoritism happens at this bar. And how a typical person who tips 'normal' isn't respected. That's probably why I was ignored walking down the street. Unfortunately it all makes sense now.
