Il Fornaio Bakery Cafe

Hands down an awesome neighborhood bakery. The breakfast pastries are really great quality, the staff are fast and friendly, and the cakes are great. The individual desserts and cake slices are awesome too, when you don't feel like buying a whole cake. Highly recommended.

Situated at this delightful corner across the street from Athens Square Park on 30th Avenue in Astoria, this cozy neighborhood establishment, translated from the Italian meaning “the bakery," is where my partner, my cousin and I came today for lunch. Upon entering, the interior was clean with a rustic vibe where several tables filled with patrons. Opened in 2011, Il Fornaio Bakery does its own baking on the premises, which includes cakes, cookies, and pastries. One of Il Fornaio’s specialties is their rainbow pastry, layered with cannoli cream and iced in chocolate for a triple treat. They also feature sandwiches, which we decided on: Astoria Park (honey turkey, pepper Jack cheese, mustard/mayo), Queensborough (turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato), and Ditmars Blvd (salami, provolone cheese, soppresata). The sandwiches were made fresh, big, well-seasoned, and delicious. The prices were reasonable. What a wonderful lunch experience, so we could recommend this place.

I ordered a basic toasted bagel with butter and jelly. As you can see from the picture, I received a CHARCOAL BURNT bagel instead. How could the preparer in good conscience see this and wrap it up, bag it, and serve it to a customer? This review is just about one incident, but there have been many, and this is definitely the straw that broke the camel's back. I've really tried to give this place a try, but it is inconsistent, mediocre, and overpriced. I'm done.

IL Fornaio In Astoria did an absolutely breathtaking job on my 30th birthday cake! Down to every detail, I almost mistaken it for a real Chanel bag at first , lol. I have never seen a more amazingly done, realistic cake in my entire life. They made my birthday so special and on top of the work, it tastes absolutely delicious!! (The cannoli cream icing was beyond delicious and the cake was so moist) yum… my guests couldn’t stop complimenting me on it. I recommend them 10/10!!!
