Huckleberry's Famous Sandwich

The best sandwich place I’ve been to in quite a while. Their cashew chicken salad sandwich is a must try. Great fast service too.

While yes, the broasted chicken is amazing here, my personal favorite is their italian combo sandwiches. From the fresh ingredients to the soft and perfectly flaky bread, the sandwiches here and so much better than Lee’s Sandwiches, there’s a reason why Huckleberry’s has been around since the 70’s and featured in the papers! The atmosphere is so welcoming and they are always so grateful for your business. In all the years I’ve been coming here, they have not made a single mistake with any of my orders and always make my phone orders expeditiously. The portions are also immense too. I promise you won’t regret coming here. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp that leads right to the door.

A hidden gem with DELICIOUS food

Located across the parking lot of the Farmer's Market pyramid on Gothard Street (near the intersection of Gothard and Edinger in Huntington Beach), this is a small, family-owned restaurant specializing in sandwiches (hot and cold) and broasted chicken (a special cooking process combining pressure-frying and traditional shallow frying, to produce juicy fried chicken with a crispy outer layer). The chicken is VERY GOOD: crispy on the outside, juicy and very tasty on the inside. It's not as greasy as conventional deep-fried chicken, and therefore it's much easier on your stomach. You can get the chicken in combos (2-piece, 3-piece, 5-piece etc.), with or without sides (you get to pick 2) and a fountain drink. Or you can simply order as many pieces as you like a la carte. The potatoes were excellent: you get huge chunks (basically 2 per potato) that are crispy on the outside but soft as baked potatoes on the inside. Great idea, I loved it! We also tried one of their hot sandwiches, specifically the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwich is 9" long, good size for a whole meal, and still a good size to share if you're also eating something else. Maybe it's not as out-of-the-world fantastic as John's Philly Grille (which I consider by far the best Philly Cheesesteak in Orange Co.), but it's not that far off. It's pretty simple: thinly-sliced ribeye steak, provolone cheese, onions, and mushrooms. Pretty much the original recipe, except maybe for the mushrooms (a concession to West Coast taste, maybe? Personally, I love mushrooms in a Philly Cheesesteak!) The service was excellent. The wait was about 15 minutes from order, which is very reasonable (if the food is too fast, chances are it's not that good...) Highly recommended.

My first time and the broasted chicken was absolutely delicious! I’m usually very thirsty after eating fried chicken but not at all thirsty after eating their amazing chicken. The potatoes were great too and I will definitely go back there soon!

I’ve been a customer for years and they have a great selection with something for everyone. I used to order the broasted chicken because I like crunchy foods and it feels like you’re eating fried chicken but a somewhat healthier, less salty and greasy version (and because it’s not breaded it doesn’t spike your sugar). The broasted chicken is very good. I’ve been a customer for so long I remember when their potato salad was more of a Korean style and it’s not as good as it used to be but still fine. Recently I ordered a sandwich and though I usually make my own so it’s healthier, the sandwich from here was delicious, fresh and brimming with ingredients. My partner has tried almost all of the cold sandwiches and he says they’re all tasty. I don’t come here often but if I’m going to eat a takeout sandwich I’ll get it from here. Another thing I like about this restaurant is how consistent they are (except for the potato salad.. please bring the old version back). A lot of restaurants these days are inconsistent and I have to guess if it’ll be a good or bad day when I visit (and if it’s an off day or they change the recipe without telling me I waste money on something I don’t want) but that’s not the case here. The owners, especially Carol, are just wonderful. I’m sure running a popular restaurant is exhausting and hard but she’s always so kind. I’m the type of customer where even if your food is great I’ll stay away if the owners are unpleasant. It’s always nice to see her and support this business.

I absolutely love this mom and pop sandwich shop. The owners are the sweetest and always make me feel welcome. I started coming here when Covid first hit and still find myself craving their cashew chicken sandwich. Super fresh and a much healthier option than the other sandwich franchises around. These days I’ve branched out to their broasted chicken and it was so worth it! Just know that if you order the broasted chicken, it takes about 15 minutes. :)

First off hands down excellent chicken and potatoes !! A little mom and pop sandwich/chicken shop that welcomes you with a big friendly hello. Definitely worth it
