Hot Fish/Joshuas Gulfport Seafood

Good takeout only seafood place in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, no amenities. Would recommend for anyone who likes fried fish and other kinds of seafood. Addendum for 02/24: I believe this place may be permanently closed.

Best catfish in the Bay Area hands down! They're an older African American couple that drives down from Reno three days out of the week to open up the doors. Only complaint is the hours aren't consistent but understandably so. I drove from Vallejo one day on the weekend just for their fish that I had been craving. It is a MUST TRY :)

I got the 333 combo with three fried oysters, three fried shrimp, and three pieces of fried catfish. Everything was cooked PERFECTLY! Moist and tender meat with a crispy crust. Absolutely classic. The combo was a lot of food! It came with Louisiana style hot sauce, tartar sauce, and ketchup, as well as plenty of fries. Service was cheerful and very friendly. There isn't any seating, so it's really take-out only. The one minor criticism I have is that the fries were pretty mediocre, but they really aren't the main attraction here anyway. Vegetarian options: Nope. Don't come here unless you want to eat some fish.

*THE REAL DEAL* I have eaten here and each time with high expectations and they do not disappoint. Friendly staff always go above and beyond to treat you like they been waiting all day to make your plate. I am looking forward to the next one...man I'm headed there now forreal-forreal!

The owner is super sweet and the food is amazing. My family is from the South and this is exactly how everyone makes their fried fish. It truly tastes like home. Plus the prices are so reasonable.

Got the catfish for my brother and the Hasa for me. Both were cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this place. Black owned business!!!!
