Hopleaf has a huge selection of beers and their food is great. My favorite are the mussels. They’re consistently good and never grainy. The fries that accompany the mussels come with an amazing garlic aioli. The portion is solid. The only downside to Hopleaf is the first room when you walk in can get very crowded and hectic. The first time we went it wasn’t very clear that there was another section where you could be seated and be away from the chaos. Other than that, great spot.
While Hopleaf may offer a great menu with good food, my experience was overshadowed by the detestable service. Leah K. (name on receipt) seemed disinterested and unresponsive, turning what could have been a delightful lunch experience, with guests who are from out of town, into a frustrating ordeal. They had a chip on their shoulder from the moment we walked in. Despite the kitchen delivering on flavor and quality, the lack of attentive service diminished the overall enjoyment of the meal. It's disheartening to see people work at a job that they don't want. If you don't like your job, quit and stop making other people's lives miserable because your life isn't working out the way you want. I thought I could show my guests some great Chicago hospitality, but we were treated like unwanted dirt. Even when I confronted them, they blamed others and could have cared less. Nice compassion. I know that my not going there won't hurt their business, but I hope the owner, or manager, considers that their staff makes customers feel unwanted and not valued. Is that what you want? If so, you got it. I would fire this server quicker than you could say a word.
Oof I got too drunk here once but those mussels so good they keep me coming back
A great option in Andersonville, if you get the right bartender. The food is fantastic, albeit still bar food. However, you'll find a kind and welcoming staff unlike Lady Gregory down the street.
I don't live in Chicago but I'll definitely be coming back just to come here. Their beer selection is absolutely fantastic. Thank you to my friend who introduced me to this gem.
Good beer especially if you aren't paying for it
