Had a lovely experience, enjoying the Chinese Lunar New Year Tea. The presentation was beautiful and the treats were tasty. Yes, it's expensive - but the ambiance was lovely. A friend finding with us had a beautiful eggwhite omlette. A couple of minor misses: Droopy flowers on our table. And they ran out of a certain tea.
I had the most delightful experience with the Lunar New Year-inspired afternoon tea. The fusion of traditional classics with Chinese flavors was well done—delicious, festive and fun. . Each bite was a celebration of exquisite taste and cultural creativity. East meets West.
Excellent presentation, obviously great for photos. For the price you pay, it's slightly below average. Matcha tiramisu was delicious, as with the cucumber sandwich. Choux was a bit soggy, and matcha scone seemed under baked. Macaron filling was tasty, but the shell was slightly hard/tough. Sesame ball was nice, har gow was okay. Pork bun had a fluffy bao, nice crispy skin. Service visits were pretty quick, although the servers were nice. $88.10 before tips and taxes.
Work on your bartender personalities.
Great modern space open airy great seating cool bar but the positives end there. Holts cafe is over priced and under performs in quality and service. Went to cafe to check out their afternoon tea. At 65 buxs per person the cost was steep, food portions and offerings were small and lacked creativity. The service was probably the most disappointing. We had to wait for our table despite making a reservation, our server at times was unavailable and lacked information regarding the menu, forgot items and didn't even show or direct us to the location of the restrooms. Despite being located in a prime location in a cool space holts cafe doesn't deliver. This first visit will certainly be my last.
I made a reservation for Holt Cafe's Holiday Afternoon Tea right before the Christmas holidays. Understandably it's a busy time of year when you have a holiday event, but we ended up waiting over 20 minutes to get our table despite having an reservation. Once seated, we ordered our type of tea and added a glass of prosecco as well. The tea was fantastic, as expected since it's Sloane brand tea. However when it came to the actual food, sweets and pastries, it was a little disappointing. The small savory sandwiches were soggy and tasted old, and the sweet pastries were very bland and seemed like something you can get from a grocery store. The highlight was definitely the scones- absolutely fantastic with great choice of spreads. But I definitely expected a higher quality afternoon tea set from Holts Cafe.
Big fan of the department store cafe concept but the food and service at the other (new) department store cafe nearby is far superior. The service was lacking (no water or coffee top-ups offered) and the food was unremarkable, particularly given the prices. The bread in my Croque Madame was too thick and toasted to brittleness. The home fries were dry and stale-tasting. The only redeemable quality was in the smoked salmon eggs benedict which was actually decent.
