Nice little homebase hotel cafe for our recent trip to NYC. Is it the greatest place in the city? No, but it gets the job done and the people are lovely. Some of the reviews here make it seem like a conflict zone. It’s fine. The blueberry danish is terrific. The $35 credit is weird, but whatever; you’re gonna a need a coffee and danish anyway.

Imagine: you're stuck on a 19 hour budget airplane trip in coach. The flight attendant hands you some mediocre food to eat. It's soggy, tasteless, uninspired -- and even inferior to your high school cafeteria. Except instead, you're actually in the heart of NYC, with some of the best food in the world within a 10 minute walk. And that coach-class airplane food costs $20+/entree. Welcome to Herb N'Kitchen. Really, the only reason you should ever eat here is because your hotel bill includes a non-refundable credit that you're compelled to use. Life is too short.

We had stayed at the Club Hilton 57th West street for 5 nights. On the day of checking out our concierge provided us with x2 complimentary drink vouchers (for tea/coffee) so we went to use them on the way to the airport. As I approached the counter and asked ‘is it possible to use these vouchers?’ The man serving me responded in a very aggressive manner ‘WHO GAVE YOU THESE?!’ It was almost as if I was trying to rob him. It’s only a hot drink…… I explained where we had stayed and that the concierge had given them to us. He then responded ‘We don’t take these here!’ Being British I accepted and threw them in the bin. But I was very disappointed with his approach and mannerism. It was a bad way to end our holiday. Also both these Hotels do clearly not communicate very well if these vouchers are not accepted.

Chances are that if you are coming here, you either received a F&B credit (whether due to Hilton status or a hotel package you paid for), or are just too lazy to go outside (which will cost you dearly). The buffet/dining area was closed during my stay, so I am rating the grab-and-go area. If you are choosing a hotel room and can pay extra for a credit, DON'T TREAT IT AS 1:1 dollar value. $35 of dining credits here will get you maybe $15-20 of food, and I'm saying that with currently inflated prices in mind. Everything in here is hyper inflated in price. No coffee makers in the room means you need to go downstairs and buy coffee here for an inflated price. They have some snacks available at twice what you would even pay for them at a Walgreens. You are in Manhattan - you can walk to a dozen places to get better food within 5 minutes. This is only a good option if you don't want to leave the building. I had the pizza, which was not bad at all, but 'not bad' isn't a good selling point for the US capital of pizza, considering its also pretty pricy. I also ordered the pasta which was some of the worst I've ever had in my life - I would compare it to a TV dinner that happened to be over $20. Obviously, if you have a credit, use it, but don't go over it. Get your freebie and eat elsewhere. Fortunately, my partner and I don't eat that much so we split one thing and then got our fill somewhere else later.
