Haystack Burgers and Barley

What happened to this place!? This establishment used to be nice and well kept. Now, it's kinda run down and gloomy looking. I got the chicken sandwich with pablano peppers and fries. Horrible. Chicken patty was thin and tough, obviously overcooked. The fries were old and stale, not even the seasoning could save them. I unfortunately do not recommend. I paid $18 bucks for disappointment and heartburn.

Two of their less-expensive burgers, One order of Fries, One Coke, One Beer and that ubiquitous 15% minimum suggested tip (for counter service) resulted in a $50 bill. No kidding. Food wasn't bad, but not memorable either. I won't be going back.

Once great, now just average. My family has been visiting this restaurant for 10 years and this used to be a truly excellent burger restaurant, but the quality has finally diminished to a point where we have stopped going. Prices have significantly increased while food quality has decreased. Burger patties have gotten smaller (this was verified with staff). Can no longer recommend. Expect $15-20 per person. Happy hours M-F afternoons, beer on tap, some wine available. This might be a decent 'snack and beer' place especially next door to Alamo Drafthouse. Parking: Large shared lot (shopping area). Sometimes crowded due to Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theater.

When haystack first opened, it was great. After a while, it seemed as though they didn’t care about food quality anymore. And, I have no idea why the decor was changed. It’s depressing with all the grey and white. Sad.

Both the food and service were above the norm for a Burger Experience. I at the Esccabeche Burger and my dining companion had the Avacado Burger. Both were of very good quality with regard to both content and flavor. With a HALF/HALF side of fries and onion crisps, we left happy and very well fed. I see they also serve craft beers. Ill have to try those next visit. Also, their management supports local comedy. You should support them back if value people who uplift other.
