Gussie's Handmade Italian

Sunday evening dinner. Excellent service. Accommodating. Food was very good and atmosphere was quiet with nice jazz track in the background. Could be considered hidden gem, there on North Avenue.

Update: I’m changing my review because the more I think about it and try other Italian spots in Chicago, the more disappointed I am in gussie’s. Change from 4 to 3 stars. I’m being generous with a 4 star, 3 and 1/2 is more accurate for my experience. It’s not bad, but honestly I was expecting more considering the rave reviews. First the good; the service was fast and efficient, the bread is hands down the best part of the meal, the burrata salad, delicious! Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the main courses. My carbonara was a bit bland and the pasta was overcooked, meanwhile my parters ravioli was better tasting but slightly undercooked. Overall, it’s decent but you can find better Italian in Chicago.

Good drinks. The house red and espresso martini were great. Amazing complimentary garlic cheese bread. Pasta noodles were good texture but a little bland, I would recommend a little more garlic and salt.

Great food, good service, and choice of dishes with reasonable prices. Complimentary bread, Burruta salad, Tagliatelle Arrabiatta, roasted broccoli, and Pesto di Basilico con Gamberoni were tasty. Since the restaurant is small and tables are next to each other, it’s noisy.

Best Italian with over the top service!!! My only complaint, is they don't exist in my home town!!! Don't miss this one!! You'll be so happy making reservations at this place! Great date night location! When I'm back in Chicago again, this is a must go to for sure! Thanks Gussie's staff for knocking it out of the park!! You should be proud! Thank you!!

What a great experience! Service is extraordinary and the food was perfect. The Old Fashions were excellent!

Absolutely would recommend! We made a reservation in advance, but we didn’t realize it was for the bar and not a table. They sat us at a booth right away even though we didn’t have the proper reservation. The food was fantastic. The service was fabulous! The bread is unbelievable. We will definitely be coming back!
