Great Harvest Bread Co. Evanston

really good sandwiches and bread. I've had the cuban and the chipotle turkey and both were excellent lunch items. The owner was giving out bread samples and the focaccia was so light and fluffy. The honey wheat seems like its great with everything.

I use to go to this place as a kid with the group home we lived in which is over 20 years ago just moved back to Illinois I will be being my kids here so many memories the cookies and bread was a hit back in the early 90s make room we are coming soon

The tomato basil soup is amazing!! Nice and creamy, full of flavor. The caprese sandwich on the herb bread was also fantastic! This place has great food and the people are very friendly! Can’t wait to try some of their pastries.

TLDR, owner is a douche, food is average. DO NOT GO HERE. I went to order and pickup a sandwich for my wife. Upon arrival the man ignored me, completely empty place fyi. Decided to check out the scones in the corner, they did not look good. As I was heading to the sandwich counter, the owner, standoff-ishly and rudely yelled What Do You Want?! Confused bc I have never been talked to this way in a bakery, replied I want to order a sandwich. He rudely turned away like he had something better to do as if I were interrupting him in some way. The other gentleman was easy to deal with and promptly made my sandwich. The vibe was so off I immediately looked up the reviews and, to no surprise, realized this owner is a major douchebag and should not be dealing with the public. When my food was ready I headed to the counter to pay. He didn't say a word as we awkwardly just stood there. After 30 seconds of just staring I said, "umm , I'd like to pay". After our transaction he sarcastically said, "have a wonderful day". DO NOT GO HERE! Better bread at other spots nearby that actually want your business.

FYI- this a chain/franchise. It's fine as far as it goes, but it's not an original or local small business. I used to go to one in Denver and this one. It's rather dark and uninviting and to me, the breads are rather anemic. I prefer Hewn, which really is local and organic and super fresh.

I was getting ready to pay after I got my panini and as I begin pulling out my phone, the owner immediately says “we don’t do Apple Pay”. Even before I begin to apologize and offer to go grab cash instead, he rudely interrupts me and throws the bag with my panini to the side (no hesitation) and begins cursing under his breath as I leave the store. I was SO excited about trying this place and now I’m NEVER walking in there again. Apparently I am one of many who have had terrible experiences with the owner. If you’re looking to support a local business, this place is really not it. There is a reason it is so empty.

I was going to buy a dozen scones, ended up buying four. I almost left the store. I believe the very unfriendly man is the owner. He has been arrangant every time I have been there. Go somewhere else where they appreciate your business. There were flies landing on the loaves of bread.
