SKIP IT. IT SUCKS NOW. Although the place looks the same, Oyster Bar is a shell of what it was. The food is garbage, the service is worse, and to add insult to those two injuries, the prices are now astronomical. Dishes are all on average around $40, which is ridiculous for what it is. Had the fish and chips and each bit of fish was an oil sponge filled with old rancid oil. As I cut into the fish the oil would pool at the surface. It was gross and inedible. The fries were cold. The chowder which was once one of their best and consistent dishes, was all cream with barely and potatoes or clams and had no flavor. The happy hour that was the Oyster Bar favorite and that kept the place four people deep at the bar every day has been removed and left to only one day for and only for two hours. Oyster Bar survived for so many years because it was a commuter haven, and because you could count on it its consistency and for the food to be good and well priced. The management needs to be sacked. They do not get the ethos of this NYC establishment. IN FACT, I would bet that the owners now are not even New Yorkers just by the way this place so sucks on such a New Jersey level. SKIP IT. IT SUCKS NOW.
Vegetarian options: Not a good restaurant for vegetarians. Very few options for vegetarians and people who don't enjoy seafood.
Great food, I come everytime I visit NY
Yea this place was good, the decor incredible and the food delicious.
Dinner? Reserve a table in the “Saloon” room. Love oysters but don’t know the difference between east and west coast shells? Order the chef’s medley. The servers are extremely knowledgeable- you’ll learn about bumpy and flat edge oysters. Hadn’t been here in a while and can’t recall exactly why I don’t come here more often. This place is not just for commuters. Beer on tap, freshest sea food, great service and an apres work buzz that is quintessential NY. Don’t yell at me please but I had the eggs Benedict over smoked salmon on English muffin ….for dinner, yum. Key lime pie is legendary. Next visit, lobster roll. Enjoy
