SEE THE EDIT BELOW The employees have forgotten what the name of the restaurant stands for. They do not follow the Golden Rule!!! I have eaten here for decades. Anytime I come to visit family, I'll make it a point to go by for a meal. The signs of the restaurant and online say they close at 7:00....they were closed at 6:40 on a Saturday night. Standing inside the door a man waved me off with total disregard. I guess the point is, go during the day when it's convenient for the employees as opposed to when you might want to eat. Remember, Do unto others... EDIT February, 2024 Because I was in town again for the weekend, I had the chance to eat there today with my Brother. The ownership has changed since I was last there two years ago. Things are back to being the way they ought to be. The service was rapid. Everybody was welcoming. And the food, is unbelievable. Just the way I remembered it. Three quick tips When you order the pulled pork, make sure it's half and half. That's inside meat and outside meet Order their wonderful French fries. Try a fried apple pie

Patron from long ago.....visited for the first time in likely 10 years which memory serves me it was a tad lack luster from childhood memories. WOW at the change! Daniel took care of my to-go order and was impressively knowledgeable of the extensive history of the Golden Rule. All the historical pics were still on display and that old pit is still kicking out the most amazing sliced and chopped pork, ribs and chicken (our order). The Mac and cheese, potato salad, baked beads, fries and Brunswick stew were all fantastic. Don't let me fail to mention the SUGAR FREE CHEESECAKE, that's right sugar free cheesecake! For they sugar babies like me they also have a full line of cakes, pies and those little freeze dried balls. Thank you so much Daniel and Golden Rule. My favorite place for take out BBQ. Place an order and it's ready in no time. I especially like the chopped pork plate with extra meat and 2 sides. It's enough to feed 3 of us. Prices are reasonable too.
