I love the whole grain wheat bread. I cut it in thirds and freeze it as needed.
This is my favorite bakery. All of their baked items are superb. I am a big fan of their bread, especially the country loaf. I also enjoy their veggie sandwich. Folks who work here are very nice. It’s tiny inside with a few tables, but are more tables outside. And there’s always take-out.
Small bakery with amazing pastries, bread, and food. Limited seating in the winter.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE or the line around the block. I thought, hey maybe it's just me. Nope. All my friends have complained about them, too. We all bond over our disgust. I'm sorry, artisan bread and pastries this is not. I've been holding this back for quite some time because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm 100% with all these 1 star reviews. I just stopped going because the every time I went there, the bread is burned beyond belief. Remember in Beetlejuice when he's in the waiting room next to the guy who died from smoking too many cigarettes? Yeah, that's their bread. But the issue is, you don't see it until you've paid and gotten home. By then it's too late. It's tough, burned and expensive for what you get. It's so bad, I just learned how to bake bread, pastries and cakes from scratch myself -- it's cheaper, tastes better and I don't have to wait in line. Aside from the burned bread, I went there to have lunch because my boss wanted to go and I wasn't going to refuse my boss. They were out of what I ordered, so I ordered a grilled cheese and soup. They brought it out to me and the grilled cheese bread was burned, but the cheese was stone cold and not melted. The soup was like ice and they didn't even bring a spoon. It was about $20 for that inedible meal. Plus, the people working there dropped broken glass all over the floor so I was standing there in a pile of broken glass trying to pay. It just seems like they don't know how to cook, clean or even stay organized there. It makes me sad to see so many people obsessed with this place because it leads me to believe people have never tasted ACTUAL GOOD bread or pastries. This place is the Rick's Dessert Diner of Oak Park -- bad bakes, all hype.
Their miso loaf is fantastic and my favorite bread. Also, don't sleep on their Thanksgiving and holiday specials!
