Famous 4th Street Delicatessen

A pretty cranped seating space especially when busy, but thats part of the Philly charm. The prices were rather high for a hot snadwich that came to the table cold. They plopped cold gravy on top of cold shaved briskit on top of cold toast. There wasnt anything hot about the open hot sandwich. However despite being cold, it was still really good for flavor as a cold sandwich so I cant put everything down when the food is good, but just wasnt as I expected it to be when I order something that says HOT. I may go back once a year as it seemed like a lot of money. At least 20 to 30 per person for just about any meal for breakfast or lunch after tax and tip.

What a great pastrami sandwich. One of the best deli sandwiches I've ever had

Not the same. Portions were much smaller. My daughter and I split a nova platter. In the past there would have been plenty of nova for two with some leftover. Yesterday we didn’t have enough for a single layer on two bagels. We aired too long for our food, we got two bagels, bu mysteriously only one was toasted. Her egg cream arrived as we were finishing our meal. Same prices but smaller portions = not the same deli.

It’s been a few years since we’ve been back to this restaurant. OMG it’s still amazing. It’s impossible to finish a meal whether it be soup, salad, platters, desserts etc… Everything is monster sized. Kris had the Challah french toast; was the size of a whole challah round. It was a true monster tasting like heaven with a little crunch. Kris’s dish came with what looks like 2#’s of homegrown fries plus a 3# mountain of corn beef hash. I had a deli platter of hot corned beef & hot pastrami. It comes with 6 slices of rye bread, plate of pickles, 2 sides. I opted for kasha varnishes that I haven’t made in a few years. Awesome dish. In addition it came with a block of the creamiest kugel I have ever had. I’ve been making kugel every year for probably 50 years and it’s been good but nowhere near the excellence of this huge piece of Kugel. It’s true, we have enough food for at least two days!!!! I'm going to try to stay as objective as I can be in this review... went in and placed a takeout order: 2 sandwiches, and a slice of cake. They told us 20-25min. Fast forward, 45min and ~$60 later (after several inquiries), two sandwiches (one with the wrong bread and no cheese), and no slice of cake. First and last time there unfortunately.
