I used to visit this restaurant 2 to 3 times a week. I work long hours and this is close to my home so convenient to have a couple cocktails and food before ending my day. The service, food and staff has declined So I stopped going as frequently. The last time I was here I had a couple of drinks was feeling relaxed when I was told that my card was not excepted did I have another card to use, I was no there is money in my account I had to call my bank which took forever because of delays to talk to a representative. So feeling good went to feeling frustrated and angry especially when you see staff pass by looking at you and seeing them talking to each other made me feel like I was being targeted. I finally got a representative from my bank on the phone to find out that they were not running my card properly. Now I am really upset the representative told them how to run the card but when the bartender took my card she walked right over and ran the card.. I was not going to go back but today I decided I would try again it’s been 6 months since I visited this restaurant but it has gone bad to worse .. service bad, food was cold, and again they did not know how to run my card so after 30 minutes to try and get my bank on phone a manager came and ran my card so I could go home I will not spend my time or money at this establishment again.. I have found other great food and restaurants close by that will get my support and hard working dollars..

I do Definitely give El Matador a 5 Star if it was the Original Owner.. mr. Marcial Gallardo as I recall when I worked there over 28 years ago for over 11 yrs. We would be packed but the food never took as long as it did 3 yrs ago. The staff was ok but they were not very familiar with there own menu.. I do tend to stop in when I'm in O.C. food was ok .. But it unfortunately will never have that Family Feeling that my husband gave to all are customers..

My food was OK. My tacos were still frozen. so I guess they prep them the night before or idk how many days before freezing them and frying them to order ...so not so fresh. The chips and salsa were good. Must husband burrito was OK. But the avocado serving they gave was amazing. The location was good, they have parking in the back.

This restaurant has been in business for 56 years for a reason. Great food, great margaritas, great service and an environment that creates and enjoyable experience. The music and the decor are refreshing compared to many corporate restaurants. Check out the lunch specials.

Starts with our table....we had a party of nine...we get seated outside.....the table is super sticky...looked like it had leftover residue from napkins and other paper products. They blame it on the weather in the area..."Right near da beach boyy-eee" - Mr. Nice Guy. Next our server....our server was meh.....he brought out waters and then asked are we okay with just waters?! wth?! Just waters? NO! Majority of us want drinks...we proceeded to order two guacamoles to go with the chips....he then said it cost money...WTH!!! of course it does...we aren't expecting it for free!!!!!! Awkward interaction. Now the food.....I got the hard shell taco plate.....the rice was bland...hardly any favor at all...the beans looked super dry, couldn't stop wondering how long they have been sitting. The tacos were decent. Sadly, majority of our party didn't like the food and doesn't plan to come back.. :/
