We really wanted to like Effie's because the retro atmosphere is really cool; however, we've been to Effie's 3 times and won't return again. The first 2 times, the wait staff were wonderful: a tall, older gentleman who has been with Effie's for years and a waitress who had just started. Both were delightful. On both occasions, we overlooked the flaws in the food; for example, the couscous in my salad was not cooked at all, just thrown on the salad. The champagne cocktail was good. The second time the calamari and shrimp scampi were OK, and at the time, they offered La Crema chardonnay, which is an everyday, drinkable wine. Our last visit on April 10th, the food was not good (I won't go into detail here but i could); the mixed drinks tasted watered down; La Crema was no longer on the menu (substituted for another which I didn't drink after 1 sip) and our waitress could have cared less. She was very rude and confrontational. We asked for the manager, who was not there at the time. Her response: " they're not going to do anything just because you don't like the wine." We were stunned. After asking for his name 3 times, we got a phone number (restaurant) scribbled on a piece of paper, no name and delivered with a major attitude. This restaurant is way over-priced for the quality of food, drink and negative attitude we experienced the last time. Again, we wanted to like Effie's but just won't go back. Parking: We had no problem parking although we the restaurant was not busy all 3 times we were there.
I stopped in for coffee and breakfast before an appointment in the area. The omlete was massive. It was great that they were willing to customize the omlete, and it was delicious. The coffee was fine, but nothing extraordinary. The fruit cup was fresh and toast browned to perfection. The place looks dated in and out, but to the extent of it being a real vibe. The servers were beyond friendly, with a touch of hospitality that aligned to the dated interior. They were very welcoming.
