East Ramp Wood Fired Pizza

Admittedly, I'm an aviation nut, so the location can't be beat. The pizza is amazing to top it off! Lots of great, inventive options coming out of their wood-fired oven. Flight Aware up on a screen on the wall so you can see who is in the air.

It was pretty good pizza, I plan to be back for more.

I'm not a big fan of pizza - I'll eat it if I have to. (Yes, I've been to other nice pizza places in town, and have had pizza at a few places in Chicago.) My friends dragged me out here, and after years of avoiding it, here I was. We came before they opened, but there were already people waiting. That should have been a clue. There are two flights of stairs to get inside, then a narrow hallway. If you find this a deterrent, I recommend you to come anyway, take your time, and get friends and family to help. Or call in an order for pickup. Yes. It's worth it. Inside is a small waiting area with old plane seating and menus. Once inside there is a huge wood fired oven, and large windows to view the flightline and parked planes. Even on a gloomy winter day, it's beautiful. Little bits of older planes are incorporated into the restaurant, it's fun to look around. Let's talk about pizza though. The dough is hand-tossed to order, and perfectly soft and doughy while still being a thinner crust - not crunchy! Love it. Make sure to try their specials, as well as their marinara sauce. I think they have created a vampire-free zone with the amount of garlic they use in it (where can I buy a tub of this?). I did not include pictures of the food, unfortunately it disappeared faster than anticipated. Try everything - appetizers, pizzas, specials, desserts. The people working here can do no wrong - if it's on their menu, it will be good.

This place is so amazing! The pizza toppings are unique, and they have great combinations. There are also traditional toppings for less adventurous pizza eaters (my husband ). The pizzas are small, so I definitely recommend getting one per person. The pepperoni pizza rolls are delicious and a great appetizer while you wait for your pizzas. The views of the airport are fun, and there is airline and airport paraphernalia all over the walls. They also have a tub of toy airplanes that my kids love to play with. You seat yourself and circle your order on paper menus. Then you walk it up to the cash register to place your order and pay. Water, glasses, silverware, and napkins are all set up in a self-serve station. That doesn’t bother us because the employees are so busy cranking out the gourmet pizzas. You can see them at work making the pizzas and putting them in and out of the pizza oven. Kid-friendliness: Super casual and busy environment, so kids are not a problem. My kids love to watch the airplanes at the window and play with the toy airplanes.
