Service was great, atmosphere was nice, but in the end, all I can remember is I paid $17 for a tiny glass half filled with wine. Stars are for the service.
Imagine "Cheers with perfectly mixed cocktails" and you know you're at DrinkWell. It's perfect. Except for Casey. Avoid him and his cheerful self. ☺️
Drinks, food and service are amazing and deserve 5 stars. 3 star review though because paying the tab got weird. Maybe i misunderstood their policy but + 20% is included, which is fine as gratuity but the tab says 20% isn’t gratuity?? It’s living wage and you should tip on top of that. So you’re now sticker price +40%? Yikes. Just increase your prices to what you need to pay & insure your people and then let customers tip as they will. Or, do what I’ve seen with most other living wage hospitality places and add the % but discourage tips. Looking to get +40% on a restaurant tab feels like I just went in to buy a used car and left feeling gouged.. in short, if you need $16.80 for my $14 drink just price it at $16.80. I would still pay it but as an informed decision.
We've been stopping here occasionally over the past few years. I'm a bit of a classic cocktail nut, from the side of trying new things and expanding our repertoire for our home bar. Let me tell you, I've never asked for something they didn't know, couldn't make, or didn't end up delicious. Remarkable selection and impressive cocktail knowledge can be found at DrinkWell. Oh, and their french fries are on point! Lastly, I love the pendant lamps over the bar. I own a custom car shop, and immediately recognized the welding gas bottle valve caps used as shades... love it!
This establishment is one that charges a 20% service fee that explicitly “is not a tip” but supposedly intended to pay for basic benefits of their employees, which should instead be reflected in the price of goods, not slipped in on the back end without any prior notice. It’s an unethical way for them to continue to underpay employees while shafting their customers.
This is my favorite bar in Austin by far, and really just the best bar I've ever been to - which is why I keep coming back. The cocktails are absolutely phenomenal and truly best-in-class, the food is regularly spectacular, and the people who work here are just some of the most lovely and fantastic people in the industry. This is my home away from home aka my "evening office" when I need to work late for my corporate gig (which is regularly) and want to grab dinner and a drink while I power through. When I'm not working here, it's my go-to place to take friends to catch up or out-of-towners looking for somewhere to grab a great drink with top-notch service. The upscale but warm and approachable ambiance makes it an easy choice to be a regular here. Every part of their seasonal menu is thought out and planned with immense consideration and care and it shows. The owner runs the bar ethically and she ensures that the staff is paid a fair wage and have benefits like insurance. Truly love this spot and would highly recommend it.
