Very sad this restaurant will be closing permanently on May 21st, 2024 according to a text message I received from them. It has been my routine go-to place for Sichuan food when I go to Bayside for grocery shopping on weekends over the past few years. Hopefully they will reopen somewhere else in Queens.
I made a reservation on their website, which seems to be faulty since they had no record of it; they were able to seat us anyway since we came at 5pm, but the place filled up shortly after. I'd recommend either calling to make a reservation or making sure you arrive early. We had the sliced pork with garlic sauce ($16), wood ear mushrooms ($13), fish/pickled greens soup ($48), Tibetan-style lamb chops ($53), and sauteed pea shoots ($20). The fish is an absolute must-try; the entire family loved it! The broth was so savory and flavorful. The lamb chops were a little dry but still tasted good. The vegetables were unfortunately tough and weren't trimmed well. The portion sizes are generous and there were leftovers for our party of five. As for alcohol, they serve beer and wine, sake/soju included. The service is quick and helpful. The space is large and not too loud, even when it got busy, so it's a nice spot for a family gathering.
The food is authentic. Spice level is insane. Too bad there weren't dan dan noodles. There's an upstairs area with private rooms.
First things first, keep in mind I believe that this is a Szechuan style restaurant. Every dish is spicy AF lol. The reason why I pointed that out is that if you or a guest in your party does not eat spicy foods, then you're sh!t out of luck. This means there's not even one dish that isn't spicy. One of my guests stared at the beautiful menu for like 15 straight minutes and couldn't find one thing to order. He finally decided on a chicken dish and pleaded with the server if the chef could make it non spicy. They agreed, and when the dish came, it was still spicy, lol. Anyways, the restaurant itself is beautiful and clean and the staff are friendly. Bonus: they have a nice selection of Boba teas. The prices here are not that cheap FYI.
Overall, a good place for family style dinners. The sizing and portions of the plates were a bit inconsistent. Some barely had any meat, probably to keep the pricing lower but I would have rather paid extra for a better sharing size.
Service was great, food was good and spicy. Interior was nice. If you do not like your food all at once be sure to tell them that ordered 6 dish’s or so it all came in line 10 at once.
