I had high hopes for this place. Just didn't like. My maple donut tasted like it just sat in oil. The red velvet cake donut was super dry. The caramel donut was good. They didn't have much to offer. I guess I just went to the wrong one.

This is the second time in about a six month period that I’ve had donuts from here. They’re pretty bad. The thing is, I understand higher pricing with how the retail space rent is in PB, but the price per donut is certainly not justified with the overall experience of biting into any flavor I’ve tried. I wouldn’t even mind paying more if the donuts were tasty like some other gourmet treat shops in the La Jolla-PB area. The donut base, naturally, is the same for all except the cake donuts. It’s a commercial base. The texture is dry and heavy, and somehow very oily (especially the twist). It’s sad to see real vanilla bean in a glaze only for it to fall flat and flavorless (other than cloyingly sweet sugar) on top of dense bread that tastes of nothing but frying oil. The “lemon filling” of the jelly donut is pretty much just a bitter yellow gel, pointing at a cheap lemon filling bought in bulk. This one was wholly unpleasant. The “creamy filling” of the strawberry split is the cheap hydrogenated oil whipped filling in packaged junk food— which, unlike real whipping cream, is dry and oily. It does nothing to moisten the already crumbly donut texture while it simultaneously wilts the strawberries and then leaves the tongue with a greasy film. At this point, maybe just mixing strawberry jam or jelly into the whipped topping would be a better choice and make it easier to bite into. The only things that helped this shop qualify for a star is the consistently friendly service.

Great selection and friendly staff. We went in the afternoon and our doughnuts seemed a little dry.

The best vegan donuts in town. Fairly priced. My favorite is the vegan maple glazed or vegan chocolate glazed with cream filling. Come early on the weekend because they sell out of the maple in both the non vegan and vegan fast. Maple glazed seems to be the most popular. My husband loves the vegan glazed cake donut with sprinkles. The cake is vanilla type vegan dough that’s nice and moist, with lovely sugar sprinkles over vanilla glaze. It’s a donut for everyone, really. My advice is to check their website because they always have different special donuts as well as the regular ones. Parking at the PB location is pretty tight. They share their parking lot with other businesses. However, they’re right near the curb so I’m assuming handicap spaces are nearby. Morning parking in PB shouldn’t be too bad.
