Donburi Ya

Workplace ordered this for us. Got the pork cartilage don. 10/10. One of the best meals I've had for lunch working here. Ugh. Just refreshing hearty meals. Amazing.

This restaurant seems to have had some trouble in the past with labeling vegetarian items and it still appears to be an issue for some items. I got a mapo tofu with the vegetarian house sauce which is clearly labeled as vegetarian in the menu. I also decided to upgrade my meal to a combo which included miso soup or salad and a selection of two sides. I picked the miso soup, kimchi, and extra rice. All of these items were labeled as vegetarian on their menu. I always examine my food before eating it, just in case. Both the mapo tofu and the kimchi seemed safe to eat but the miso soup smelled strongly of bonito, which is a Japanese fish used to season these dishes in the form of dashi. The miso soup was clearly labeled as vegetarian on the menu but the smell said otherwise. Another issue with this establishment is the staff. Although they provide a good service, they barely speak any English. Due to this, I chose not to approach them about the miso soup although in hindsight I should've at least tried, regardless of the language barrier. Overall, I'd say that the food was very good and the service size decent. Don't expect the mapo tofu to taste like Sichuan mapo tofu as it seems to be the restaurant's own spin on the dish. I also wouldn't get the combo again as it was just too expensive for what you get. Vegetarian options: Make sure you get the house sauce if ordering the Mapo tofu. Only the house sauce is vegetarian.

Small place. Great food. Flavorful. Filling. Clean. Friendly. I recommend the Unagi Don. The Teriyaki is also pretty solid. Rice is perfect. I also get a little extra sauce for the rice.

Great shop if your in the mood for a Donburi. You grab any bowl and make a combo with either soup or salad and 2 additional options. I got the Pork cartilage, salad, soy sauce egg and potato salad. Overall I thought it was tasty. Would go again.
