Distant Relatives

The food was amazing. I had the lb barbacoa and it was stellar. I didn't think I was going to get tacos this trip but was saved at the last minute.

My BBQ pork rib was smoked tender. The rub is a fairly intense pepper flavor. Bold but perhaps too bold. Obviously prepared with TLC. I will try this place again. The trailer is at Meanwhile Brewing. I dig the atmosphere and vibe at this location.

Nia & Amari was great we seem them on Wfaa channel 8 news in Dallas Texas. We was in Austin to celebrate my girlfriend Birthday. And came by and visited we told them that this wouldn't be the last time coming when we come back to the Austin Area. Keep up the good work and wonderful service.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wanted to try this place after reading all the hype. After a 45 minute wait my mouth was watering for the fresh hot brisket sandwich I was expecting. Unfortunately it was cold and dry, with no discernible flavor.

Everything we wanted and more! My man and I had been wanting to come to this place ever since we moved here 5 months ago and watched Somebody Feed Phil. Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. We had the brisket, pulled pork, hot link, black eyed peas, and the rice. Even with all that food we just about licked the plate. The brisket was perfect, the pulled pork and black eyed peas were the best we've ever had and don't sleep on the rice as it was so flavorful and also had chicken. Nia gave great service and even called me out by name when she noticed me doing the ‘head nod’ dance (you know the way you move your head when your taste buds are having a party). The spot itself is very cute and made for a perfect date night. Oh and they have peanuts which was perfectly seasoned making for a great snack. Loved this Texas modern African American bbq! Exceptional BBQ, I had read and heard about Distant Relatives and finally got to try it today. Everything we had was exceptional (Chicken, Brisket, Ribs, Burnt Ends & Black Eyed Peas). Don’t let the fact that they do not take online orders deter your ordering. I was the only one at our table who waited in line for Distant Relatives and I got my food way before others who ordered online from other food trucks and my Distant Relatives meal was by far the best meal anyone had. The staff also could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I highly recommend others seek out and eat their BBQ. You can also have an amazing beer from Meanwhile with it.
