Coquine is a neighborhood bougie cafe, whose trust fund and traveled child they would not permit the consumption on premises for no fault of my own. I give “coquine" whose name in French means naughty a one star on all accounts.
This place is incredible. We did the prefix menu and it was absolutely delicious! We can't wait to visit again.
Food was good overall but I find service to be too archaic for my personal taste.
A Portland treasure. This place deserves its accolades and reputation. The Prix fixe menu was on point.
I've been in Portland for 10 years, and Coquine has been on my radar for a while now. I was so excited when my friend made reservations (about a month in advance). I absolutely love the location near Mt. Tabor. It's really special, sitting there on its own with the market right next to it. I parked right in front of the restaurant. We were seated next to the window, and it ambience was lovely. I think you can get away wearing what you want, but dressing up is 100% appropriate. Food is clean, beautiful, and simple in a good way. We started with the trout roe and bread, and that was great. It was a fun, enjoyable start - you make your toast by putting your own toppings on. I got the 1/2 chicken, and thought it was cooked perfectly. I also got about 2 full meals out of it, so I'd say pricing was good. I loved when the server poured the carrot soup into my friend's bowl at the table. Shout out to the bus boy who folded my napkin and sat it down next to me as I came back from the bathroom. Clearly everyone pays close attention to what is going on. This is a Portland must. I'd say it pretty much embraces Portland dining at it's best.
Consistently amongst the the best dining experiences in Portland. Great value. Produce driven dishes that are perfectly executed with flair and care. Tasting menu format offers diners 6 dishes with snacks to start and small sweet bites to finish for a ridiculous $90. Wine pairings are adventurous, thoughtful and successfully executed.
The food is always wonderful, the wine selection is fantastic. The staff are knowledgeable and fun to talk to. We always have a blast when we go.
Absolutely incredible. The owner/somm who facilitated the wine pairings is amazing and adds so much to the whole experience. Absolutely worth it and more!
Overall a fantastic place, my #8 rated restaurant in Portland & the cheapeast of those 8. Under $70/person for 6 courses. 3 of them were "one of the best things I've ever had"-tier (tempura sweet potato with brown butter dashi, leek salad, tonka bean dessert), 2 more were really great (arancini, carrot/crab soup), one was just good (calamarata pasta). The cookies are also terrific, gotta try those. Probably skip the rest of the candy tray though, not worth $3.50 for normal caramels.
